Donja Pačetina combines a public playground and recreation area with religious heritage and local musical history.

Play and Recreation Area in Donja Pačetina

The public play and recreation area includes 532 m² of space for sports and recreation, as well as a 5 m² shelter. The sports and recreation area is therefore significantly larger than the shelter. The two measurements give a concrete impression of the different components of this public facility.

Religious Heritage and Musical History

In Halamani, a 19th-century shrine is part of Donja Pačetina’s religious and folk heritage. There are also several other shrines and crosses in Donja Pačetina. The area also has a specific connection to music history: the Pačetanci wind ensemble was founded in Donja Pačetina in 1950, growing out of a local tamburica group.

In the wider destination of Općina Sveti Križ Začretje

The settlement of Sveti Križ Začretje, which shares its name with the municipality, lies on a hill in the Krapinčica Valley. There, the Krapinčica flows into the Šemnica and Pačetina streams. The settlement is also on the Zagreb–Macelj road, approximately halfway between Zabok and Krapina.

Churches, Museums and Collections

The parish church in Sveti Križ Začretje dates back to the 12th century. It houses the sculpture “Oplakivanje Krista,” which dates from the late 15th or first half of the 16th century. This distinguishes the date of the church’s construction from the considerably later date of the sculpture.

The Žitnica building, which houses the Žitnica Museum, was built in 1796. The museum features the ethnographic exhibitions of the “Zvirek” group: “From Hemp to Folk Costume,” “My Grandmother’s House” and “Christmas.” If you are planning a visit, confirm the visiting arrangements in advance. The Ivan Lovrenčić Gallery in the museum includes 16 paintings, 30 drawings and 53 prints that Ivan Lovrenčić donated to his hometown.

Sveti Križ Začretje Castle was built at the end of the Baroque era, in several phases. It houses the Museum of Heritage Culture and Memory. In Švaljkovec, the pear-tree avenue is a monument of garden architecture.

Viewpoint and Cycling Route

The Saint Vitus viewpoint offers views across most of the Zagorje region to the surrounding mountains. It can be reached via a paved road that branches off the old Sveti Križ Začretje–Mirkovec–Zabok road in Ciglenica Zagorska. Cycling route 226, “Okolicom Začretja,” starts and ends in the centre, in front of the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. After crossing the Krapinica stream, the route reaches the “Za-Za-Kr” cycle path.
