Pisanitsa: Village Festival and Getting There
Accommodation in Pisanitsa
A stay in Pisanitsa can be planned around an annual event and how to get there. The village festival falls on August 15; access is via a paved road through Rozhen. Both are useful points of reference when planning a hotel stay.
The August 15 Village Festival
The annual village gathering takes place on August 15, the church feast day. Visitors come to celebrate; a communal kurban is usually held in the churchyard. The date gives you a fixed reference point for planning your trip, while individual events may vary from year to year. If you plan to travel for the festival, check the specific dates and details for that year.
The Rhodope cuisine is part of the village celebration’s culinary tradition. Typical regional dishes include petatnik, Rhodope klin, kolachkove, beans, sarma in cabbage leaves, also called aprachkove, and cheverme. Their availability outside the celebration is not guaranteed.
Getting to Pisanitsa

This distance is approximate. As road conditions and routes may change, check the current route before setting off.

Caves and Activities in the Wider Destination of Smolyan
Near Koshnitsa, a marked hiking trail with rest areas leads to the entrance of Kaleto Cave. At the cave complex, visitors can also try a 40-meter alpine swing. The rope is attached to the highest point of the rock arch. Confirm locally before your arrival whether the activity is available. This helps distinguish the cave trail and the alpine swing as separate visitor experiences.
Uhlovitsa Cave, near Koshnitsa, is 460 meters long and about 3.5 million years old; its dendritic formations strongly resemble sea corals. The developed section measures 330 meters and is reached by a path with 280 metal steps. To understand the measurements, distinguish the total length from the developed section: 460 meters refers to the cave as a whole, while 330 meters refers to the developed section.
