Discover Bezau: Hotels, culture and mountain trails
Accommodation in Bezau
When planning a trip to Bezau, you can choose from several different highlights: church history, local traditions, views and outdoor activities. St. Jodok Parish Church and Schönenbach offer cultural perspectives; trails, the cable car and the natural toboggan run each offer different experiences and conditions. If you are looking for a hotel, you can start by considering which of these interests you want to shape your stay.
Cultural history and local traditions
St. Jodok Parish Church in Bezau dates back to a 14th-century chapel dedicated to St. Jodok. Schönenbach is an example of a well-preserved Bregenzerwald Vorsäß, a traditional Alpine summer settlement, and bears witness to the long-standing traditions of the municipality of Bezau. The two offer different perspectives: the church reflects a religious dedication and historical origins, while Schönenbach reflects the long tradition of the Vorsäß.
Views and trails
The Bezau cable car takes visitors over the sunny Niedere mountain ridge to a viewpoint in the Bregenzerwald. The Theodul Chapel is nearby: it can be reached on foot in about 15 minutes from the mountain station of the cable car from Bezau. This gives you two distinct points of interest to consider when planning: the viewpoint as the cable car’s destination and the chapel as a walking destination from the mountain station.
The Känzeler circular trail focuses on the scenery along the route: a narrow forest path above a steep rock face, with views of the village of Bezau. The Höhlenpark-Klausenstein nature trail offers a different focus. A small pavilion at a viewpoint and 45 information panels about geology and flora connect the route with nature-related topics. The choice between the two trails is clear: views of Bezau and the route itself, or information about geology and flora.
Toboggan run and mountain breakfast
The natural toboggan run from Baumgarten to Sonderdach is over 3 km long and has an elevation change of 440 metres. These figures give you an idea of its length and elevation change; use in winter depends on operating conditions. If tobogganing is important to your trip plans, check in advance whether the run will be open during your visit.
At 1,650 m, the Baumgarten Panorama Restaurant serves a mountain breakfast featuring regional Bregenzerwald specialities and panoramic views. If you plan to have breakfast here, check before your visit whether a reservation is required.
Cycling towards Reuthe
The Radlfix Tour starts in the heart of Bezau and follows the Bregenzer Ache towards Reuthe. It adds a cycling route with a clearly specified starting point and direction to the options. This sets it apart from the walking trails, whose distinctive features include the narrow forest path, views of Bezau or the information panels.
Find a hotel to suit your interests
If you have seasonal plans, the operating conditions of the natural toboggan run also matter; for the mountain breakfast, check in advance whether a reservation may be required.
