Blons is a suitable destination for travelers who want to include nature, hiking trails and local history in their plans. Landscape features include numerous biotope areas and old hay meadows with high natural value. There are also themed trails related to the history of avalanches, as well as buildings and facilities that offer different ways to explore local history. When looking for a hotel in Blons, consider whether your trip will focus more on hiking, nature or historical interests.

Nature and Landscape

The biotope areas and old hay meadows each have their own characteristics: the hay meadows are specifically noted for their high natural value. In early summer, the Alpe Sera is home to a diverse range of flora. If you are interested in plants and habitats, you can take this seasonal aspect into account when planning your trip. The Falvkopf is located above Blons, is 1,849 m high and offers mountain views. So, alongside natural areas, you can also choose a seasonal attraction and a named panoramic landscape.

Hiking Trails and Themes

The Leusorgweg is one of three themed trails created in Blons to mark the 50th anniversary of the avalanche disaster. The trail combines hiking with commemoration. It can be reached by Landbus L570 to the “Blons Gemeindezentrum” stop. Check the timetable and stop again before traveling, as bus routes and stops may change over time.

The Schutzwaldweg is 4 km long, takes about 2.5 hours and has an elevation gain of 250 meters. The length of the Verbauungsweg depends on the route: it is 3.5 to 4 km long. Here, too, the stated duration is about 2.5 hours, with an elevation gain of 250 meters. The two trails therefore differ in their stated lengths, while the stated duration and elevation gain are the same. Trail conditions can vary; take this into account when planning your hike.

On the Blonser Land-Art-Weg, the hiking trail passes directly by the “Metamorphose Walserkamm” installation. Here, hiking is combined with an artistic element along the trail. The Leusorgweg, the two routes with specified distances and elevation figures, and the Land-Art-Weg therefore offer different thematic and practical focuses.

Local History and Remembrance

The parish church in Blons was built between 1684 and 1687 and enlarged between 1863 and 1873. It also has a memorial to the victims of the 1954 avalanche. The church’s construction history and the commemoration represent two distinct points in time: the church’s construction and expansion phases, and remembrance of the victims of the avalanche disaster.

The old mountain farmsteads are also notable architectural features: their stables are built on the uphill side, and the farmsteads have avalanche protection. The so-called “Lawinenschanze” is described as an earth wall with a so-called Schanzbaum. These examples draw attention to structural measures for dealing with avalanche hazards, while the memorial and themed trails offer another way to explore remembrance.

Marlies Jenny’s Doll Museum presents an overview of the history of dolls from 1850 to 1960. The Avalanche Documentation Center is located in the Blons Gemeindezentrum and provides information about the 1954 avalanche disaster through original reports and films. If you plan to visit the museum or the center, check visitor information in advance. This will help you focus your plans on the nature and history topics that matter to you.
