Accommodation in Vorderstoder
Hiking trails, scenic views, water, and sacred architecture give you several clear starting points for planning your trip to Vorderstoder.
Hiking trails and viewpoints
From the Almgasthof Baumschlagerberg in Vorderstoder, a 4.2 km footpath leads to the Stoderer Weitblick viewing platform. The walk takes a little over an hour and may vary depending on conditions. The platform offers panoramic views of the natural landscape and surrounding mountains of Pyhrn-Priel. If you are planning a tour with a named starting point, destination, and estimated walking time, these details provide a concrete framework.
Hiking trail number 9 starts at the municipal office in Vorderstoder. From there, follow the road for about 150 metres in the direction of Windischgarsten, then turn left onto the hiking trail. Signposting and conditions may change; check the current signs before setting out.
In dry weather, you can hike around Windhaagersee lake. The two hiking ideas therefore differ in how they guide your planning: the route to Stoderer Weitblick has a stated distance and walking time, while the loop around Windhaagersee is explicitly weather-dependent.
Water and a peaceful place to rest
Windhaagersee is a tranquil lake in the middle of the forest. A hunting lodge and benches on its shore provide a peaceful place to rest. This means the hiking option in dry weather also offers a place to take a break by the lakeshore.
Schafferteich in Vorderstoder is a natural swimming pond in a beautiful setting. The pond has a bathing jetty and a sunbathing lawn where you can relax and enjoy the sun. If you plan to visit Schafferteich, check access before your trip.
Parish church and living culture
Vorderstoder’s parish church was built in the Late Gothic style to replace a wooden chapel and consecrated on 15 August 1507. It is dedicated to the then newest Austrian saint, Margrave Leopold III. Its architectural features include a beautiful net rib vault. A net rib vault is a type of vault in which the ribs form a net-like pattern.
Two of the church’s three bells bear the casting date 1401 and are among the oldest church bells in Upper Austria. The parish church also houses the Late Gothic Madonna of the altar of grace, “Maria am Stein.” She is flanked by Saint Joachim and Saint Anne and depicted as the Queen of Heaven.
Alpine pastures are part of the landscape around Vorderstoder, and the cattle drive from the alpine pastures is a tradition of its living culture. If you are considering this tradition as a specific reason for your trip, check in advance whether it coincides with your stay.
Rooms and local information
The Vorderstoder Tourist Information Centre can help you find rooms and answer questions about mountain tours, hikes, leisure facilities, and events. If you plan to visit, check the opening hours in advance.
