If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Kollerschlag, trails, literary connections and individual cultural attractions can help you decide what to focus on during your stay. The Stoanaweg combines landscape and natural rock formations; the Hanriederweg is dedicated to a poet who wrote in the local dialect. The church, chapel and other historical sites offer different points of interest.

Trails and Landscape

The Stoanaweg leads through the gently rolling landscape of the MĂĽhlviertel, past numerous mystical granite formations. The route returns to its starting point in Kollerschlag. You can therefore plan it as a loop, without needing to arrange a different endpoint for your return.

The Lourdes Chapel is right on the Stoanaweg and offers a place to pause. It is also known as the “Wangafritzn Chapel” and has 110 seats and two bells. This section of the trail thus combines nature with a chapel and specific architectural details.

The Hanriederweg has a different character: it is dedicated to Norbert Hanrieder, a Mühlviertel poet who wrote in the local dialect. The two trails thus offer different thematic connections—the Stoanaweg focuses on granite formations and landscape, while the Hanriederweg has a literary dedication.

Art, Literature and History

Norbert Hanrieder was born in Kollerschlag on 2 June 1842. He was one of Upper Austria’s most significant dialect poets of the 19th century. The dedication of the Hanriederweg reflects his literary significance and gives your trip planning a clear cultural connection.

St. Joseph's Parish Church also offers a specific connection to art history: its high altar features Bartolomeo Altomonte’s altarpiece “The Death of St. Joseph,” painted in 1746. If you are interested in religious art, you can see a specific work with a named artist and year of creation here.

Another striking landscape and historical site is the Pfaffenhaus, a 20 m-high rock formation with a large natural cave. Clergymen fleeing the Hussites around 1427 used the cave as a refuge. Hochstein is 860 m high and is also known locally as “Burgstall.” These names and historical connections complement the artistic and literary themes with natural and local history.
