Architecture and local history
Weitersfelden Parish Church was built in the 14th century in the Late Gothic style and is located on the Mühlviertler Gotikstraße (Mühlviertel Gothic Route). Its construction period, style and place on the themed route give the church a distinct cultural and historical significance.
The Hoisn Chapel in Wienau is distinguished by its unique construction: it is built entirely from granite stones using the traditional Steinbloß style. Inside, six granite heads protrude from the wall on both the front and back sides, together representing the twelve apostles. The building thus offers a chance to see both stone construction and figurative interior design.
The Kammerer Cross is a mountain chapel on the Kammererberg in Weitersfelden, at an altitude of 989 metres, and lies on the Johannesweg Trail. The parish church is on the Mühlviertler Gotikstraße, and the Kammerer Cross is on the Johannesweg: each building is linked to its own named route.
Medieval landmarks associated with the administration of justice can still be visited today on a hike along the Denkmalweg. The Weitersfeldner Galgen (Weitersfelden gallows) is considered the best-preserved high court site in Upper Austria. The history of the judiciary is therefore another cultural and historical highlight, alongside the churches and chapels.
