Liebenau: Moor, Hiking Trails and Winter Sports
Accommodation in Liebenau
Liebenau offers nature and hiking destinations at Tannermoor, trails through meadows and forests, and seasonal winter sports. Local options vary depending on the route, destination and season. The hiking trails, moor trails and cross-country ski network provide particularly specific guidance.
Tannermoor and its trails
The Tannermoor nature reserve is located in the market town of Liebenau and covers 124.2425 hectares. It is home to numerous rare plant and animal species. The trail network at Tannermoor includes the RUBNERtrail, which is suitable for strollers, and the approximately six-kilometre-long TANNERtrail. There is a moor footbath on the TANNERtrail; the granite outcrops of Lehrmüller-Mauer offer panoramic views.
Hiking trails with different destinations
The Wachtsteinweg leads from the centre of Liebenau to Wachtstein and onwards towards Tabormühle through meadows and forests. The Kampursprungweg passes through Glashütten and Hirschau to the source of the Kamp, then returns to Liebenau via Schanz. The routes differ in their destinations and order: Wachtstein and Tabormühle on the one hand, and the source of the Kamp and the return via Schanz on the other.
Mountain biking with regional connections
Liebenau has a well-signposted mountain biking trail network connected to the mountain biking networks of the other Almgemeinden and neighbouring Waldviertel. When planning, you can compare this network of regional connections with the routes of the hiking trails: regional links define the cycling routes, while the individual destinations and stops define the hikes mentioned.
Winter: downhill skiing and cross-country skiing
The ski lift on Pfarrerberg is 300 m long. The child-friendly platter lift is suitable for children and beginners; you can choose between an easy standard run and a slightly more challenging wave run. For cross-country skiing, groomed trails wind through snow-covered landscapes and winter forests. The Liebenau cross-country skiing centre is the starting point for a 100 km network of interconnected trails. One individual loop is the Arenaloipe 1.2 in the Wintersportarena Liebenau: the illuminated course is 1.2 km long and has artificial snow. As the lift and trails operate seasonally, check current conditions before travelling.
Rubenerteich: fishing and kiosk
Fishing at Rubenerteich is possible from 1 May to 31 October. The MOOR-TREFF kiosk is staffed approximately from May to October. Outside opening hours or in bad weather, drinks and snacks are available from a vending machine. If you want to combine your visit specifically with fishing or a stop at the kiosk, check the fishing dates and current opening hours in advance.
Church and local history
The church in Liebenau was built in 1754 and consecrated in 1755; in 1756, Liebenau became an independent parish. This sequence distinguishes the construction and consecration of the church from the later independence of the parish. Alongside the nature and hiking destinations, this also gives you a specific historical connection to the town.
