Fraham: Rosarium, Chapels and WiesmĂĽhle
Accommodation in Fraham
Fraham brings together garden culture, regional history and opportunities to stay active. The Rosarium Gruber focuses on roses, while the chapels and WiesmĂĽhle offer other cultural and historical points of interest. To plan active days, consider hiking routes through the Eferding Basin landscape and the Trattnachtalweg R17 cycle route, listed by the municipality. The Innbach Stadium and activities related to oil and asparagus are also among the many facets of the town. When choosing what to focus on during your trip, consider whether gardens, architectural history or outdoor activities matter most to you.
Rosarium, River and Routes
More than 400 different varieties of roses grow in the Rosarium Gruber, including many historic varieties that bloom only once. The collection therefore combines a wide variety of roses with the distinctive blooming pattern of some of them. The rosarium was laid out in the form of a Baroque parterre garden. For garden enthusiasts, both aspects are equally defining: the variety of roses and the Baroque design of the garden.
The Innbach flows through Fraham. If you prefer exploring on foot, you will find many hiking routes through the Eferding Basin landscape. The municipality lists the Trattnachtalweg R17 as a cycle route. Check the route details before setting out so your plans match the route you have chosen. Cycling and hiking are different ways to include Fraham and its landscape in your travel plans; be sure to check the details of individual routes based on your plans.
Chapels and Their Artwork
The chapels in Fraham offer several ways to explore the area’s cultural history. The wayside chapel contains a Calvary group and figures of saints by sculptor Ägidius Gamsjäger. The Herz Chapel features a wooden statue of the Madonna and Child in its round-arched niche. Two angels’ heads carved by Johann Gammer flank the statue. These two chapels therefore feature different kinds of artwork: the Calvary group and figures of saints in one, and the carved image in the niche in the other.
The Hauskapelle also preserves a dated work of art: its large painting dates from 1853 and was restored in 1949. The two years mark different stages in the painting’s history: its creation and its restoration. The Lahmair Chapel, meanwhile, is designed in the Neo-Gothic style. It replaced a wayside cross in 1880, which had been erected in memory of Jakob Aumayr. Aumayr, the owner of the Lahmair estate, died in an accident in 1830. The chapel’s history can thus be traced through several dates: the accident that led to the wayside cross and its later replacement by the chapel.
WiesmĂĽhle: Architectural History and Hydropower
The four-storey mill building at Wiesmühle is documented as far back as 1250. The present building was constructed using stones from Eferding’s Linz Gate, which was demolished in 1828. The date 1250 refers to the earliest documentary record of the mill building; 1828, by contrast, marks the demolition of the gate, whose stones were used in the present building. Wiesmühle therefore brings together two distinct historical connections: the mill building’s long documented history and the source of some of its building materials.
Since 1925, the hydropower of Wiesmühle has been used to generate electricity and also to operate a sawmill. This industrial aspect adds the use of hydropower to the building’s history. Those interested in local history will find a connection here both to the building’s documented past and to energy generation and sawmill operations.
Tours, Leisure and Regional Products
On the tour of the Raab Organic Oil Mill, a themed trail takes visitors through the diverse world of edible oils. The tour includes insights into the oil presses and oil bottling; afterwards, visitors can taste all the oils. The experience therefore combines information about edible oils with insights into the processing stages and a tasting afterwards.
Mayer Asparagus Farm offers white asparagus, including peeled asparagus, green asparagus and Eferding Landl potatoes. The tour program includes general information about the farm and asparagus, a visit to the asparagus harvest and tastings. Tours and visits must be arranged in advance. Innbach Stadium is a modern leisure facility located within the municipality of Fraham and serves as a place for exercise, relaxation and community. Together, these options offer different focuses for planning your trip: a visit centered on gardens and architectural history, outdoor activities or a themed guided experience.
