Sankt Georgen Am Fillmannsbach offers two distinct focal points for a trip: the Wolfgang Trail and its architectural and ecclesiastical history. When looking for a hotel for your stay, you can plan around whether you want to focus more on a pilgrimage stage or on local squares and historic buildings. Friedensplatz, the parish church and other historic sites offer specific points of interest.

Friedensplatz and Trails

Friedensplatz has existed since 2018 and is located in the village of Fillmannsbach. Some information boards there are about the municipality. The square is also home to an artistically designed rock from Falkenstein. This brings municipal information and an artistic object together in one place.

The pilgrims’ rest stop is on the Wolfgang Trail, the pilgrimage route from Regensburg to St. Wolfgang. A large erratic boulder from Falkenstein am Wolfgangsee is located at the rest stop. This erratic boulder should not be confused with the artistically designed rock in Friedensplatz: both are said to originate from Falkenstein, but they are different objects in different locations. If you are planning a long pilgrimage route, check the route details locally.

A specific distance is given for a circular route: a footpath closes the gap to the “Brauereiweg” (Brewery Trail); this connection created a three-kilometre circular route. These are two distinct trail references: the circular route has a specified length and gap closure, while the Wolfgang Trail is described as a pilgrimage route from Regensburg to St. Wolfgang.

Parish Church and Ecclesiastical History

The Catholic parish church of St. George is a single-nave Gothic conglomerate church. Its west tower has retained its original appearance. Most of the furnishings are Baroque, with some surviving Gothic elements. Two Gothic figures of St. Catherine and St. Barbara, dating from the late 15th century, are located on the gallery parapet. The parish church’s historic bells date from 1515.

A document issued by Emperor Henry III in 1040 mentions a “capella s. Georgii martiris” at Wildsteig. The year refers to the document mentioning the chapel; 1515, by contrast, is the date of the historic bells. These two dates therefore relate to different details of the church’s history.

As of June 23, 2026, the parish church is listed in the heritage register as a protected monument and is protected by ordinance. The rectory at St. Georgen 13 is also protected by ordinance. The former König brewery at Fillmannsbach 1 is protected by official decision under Section 3.

The Rectory and Other Historic Sites

The rectory was built in 1791 and rebuilt after a fire in 1843. The two-storey building has a hipped roof, simple rendered architectural detailing and a niche with a figure above the entrance. Its construction history and the described exterior offer different points of interest if you are interested in the area’s historic architecture.

A medieval castle site lies where the present-day Calvary Chapel stands. Its defensive ditch is still visible. Thus, alongside the ecclesiastical buildings, historic points of interest include an archaeological site and a still-recognisable feature of the landscape.

Planning Bus Connections

Bus stops on a bus route are located near the Dicker company in Fillmannsbach—also known as St. Georgen West—and in Angern. Check the stops and timetables before travelling to ensure your plans match the connections you intend to use.
