For a stay connected with Hollenzen, you can focus on different things: the Hollenzen–Scheulingwald winter hiking loop, a glimpse of farm life at the show farm, and recurring village traditions. When planning, the main considerations are therefore the time of year, when you visit, and which theme matters to you. Alongside the landscape and winter loop, there are visitor activities and events throughout the year. This lets you plan your stay around an activity or a specific date.

Landscape and Winter Hiking

The protected landscape area of Scheulingwald is in the market town of Mayrhofen and has been protected since 1991. The Hollenzen–Scheulingwald route is also a scenic, family-friendly winter hiking loop through Mayrhofen and the surrounding area. Its designation as a loop describes the route type; its classification as a winter hike indicates the seasonal setting. If you plan to hike the loop, check winter conditions before setting out.

Visits to the Farm and Show Dairy

The show farm has a mini tractor course for visitors; visitors can also visit the goat kindergarten. The show farm explains what makes hay milk from cows, sheep, and goats special, and shows the role of bees. For your visit, you can distinguish between practical visitor activities and informative topics: the course and goat kindergarten are offered alongside information about hay milk and bees.

The show dairy is open daily from 09:00 to 17:00; last admission is at 16:15. Check visiting hours before your trip.

Village Traditions Throughout the Year

The Hollenzen village festival takes place every year on the second Sunday in September. Klöpfelsingen takes place every year during the pre-Christmas season, on the last Thursday before Christmas Eve. During Klöpfelsingen, songs and tunes are performed in the village square in Hollenzen. Visitors from outside the village come to the square and spend a quarter of an hour there listening to music. Comparing the dates is useful for planning your trip: the village festival falls in September, while Klöpfelsingen takes place during the pre-Christmas season. Check the specific event dates for the year of your trip if you would like to plan your visit around one of these traditions.

The Floriansbrunnen fountain at Hollenzen 100 is a protected monument under a preservation ordinance (as of 28 May 2024).

Getting Your Bearings on the Bummelzug

The Bummelzug route runs from Sternplatz in Mayrhofen via Mühlbach, Stockach, Schwendau Dorf, Oberbichl, Eckartau, Hollenzen, and Laubichl. Hollenzen is therefore one of several named stops along a longer route. If you are considering taking the train, check the route’s stops with the operator in advance; they may change.

Planning Your Time Around the Season and Dates

Different conditions matter when planning your time: the loop is a winter hike, so you should check current conditions; the show dairy has daily opening hours; and the traditions follow recurring calendar dates. If one of these experiences is a deciding factor for your trip, start by checking the season or date for the activity you want to focus on.
