Specific activities to enjoy on a trip to Oberried include climbing, hiking and cycling. The places and routes involved vary according to the type of activity, the landscape and the trail conditions. If you choose a destination based on planned activities, these differences can help you decide on Oberried; you can then look for a hotel for your stay.

Climbing in Oberried

The Oberried climbing garden is located in the hamlet of Oberried on the western side of the Ötztal Valley. It has more than 100 climbing routes up to grade 8 and is suitable for families and beginners. The approach from the climbing garden car park to the rock face takes about five minutes on foot. Before visiting, it is advisable to check the latest information, as the range of routes may change due to renovations and access conditions may vary seasonally. Information about suitability may also be updated.

The location and walking time answer different questions: the western side of the Ötztal Valley tells you where the climbing garden is, while the approximately five minutes refers only to the walk from the car park to the rock face. Use this short time as a guide to the approach, not as an indication of how long a climbing visit will take.

Hiking and cycling

The “Rieder side” hike passes through the districts of Unterried, Lehn and Oberried, then climbs gently to the Pest Chapel. The trail is mostly flat and suitable for wheelchair users and pushchairs, except for the climb to the Pest Chapel. If you are travelling with a wheelchair or pushchair, plan for this exception separately.

The “3 Oberrieder Schleife – Längenfeld” route offers a different landscape. It passes over meadows and through a short stretch of forest, reaches the confluence with the Ötztaler Ache and then heads towards Oberried. Unlike the “Rieder side”, this route is marked by meadows, a stretch of forest and the confluence, while the districts and gentle climb to the Pest Chapel define the “Rieder side”. This allows you to compare the two based on their specific landscape features.

The Ötztal Cycle Path passes through Oberried and, at the edge of the village, follows a gravel path through wide fields below the Pest Chapel. This provides a clear contrast with the “Rieder side” hike: here, the cycle route is characterised by gravel and fields, while the hike is distinguished by its mostly flat course and the exception of the climb to the Pest Chapel.

Cultural point of interest

The Mariahilf village chapel is another specific cultural point of interest in Oberried. It is protected as a listed monument under an ordinance; an entry in the heritage register dated 28 May 2024 records this protection. For visitors who would like to include culture alongside outdoor activities, the chapel adds a distinct architectural point of interest to their experience of Oberried.
