Accommodation in Fladnitz An Der Teichalpe
When looking for a hotel in Fladnitz an der Teichalpe, the landscape, trails, leisure activities and culture can shape your trip planning. The Teichalm is the focal point of the municipality of Fladnitz an der Teichalm. It is home to Teichalm Lake and a raised bog, which has a nature trail through it.
Moor, lake and trails on the Teichalm
Teichalm Lake is a moor lake in the Almenland Nature Park and lies at an elevation of about 1,200 metres. Signs along the Teichalm Moor Nature Trail explain the animal and plant species that live there. The trail is an approximately one-kilometre-long, accessible boardwalk through one of Austria’s last dwarf pine bogs. It is open for free from April to October.
Another route goes around Teichalm Lake: the approximately one-kilometre-long gravel path is accessible and suitable for strollers. Both paths are a similar length, but differ in surface and route. The boardwalk leads through the moor; the gravel path circles the lake. When planning, you can therefore choose between a path through the moor and a loop around the moor lake.
The Teichalm loop offers a different route. It leads from the Nechnitz plateau to the Teichalm and takes in scenic alpine pasture trails, Teichalm Lake and the raised bog.
Cross-country ski trails and other activities
The cross-country ski trails also differ significantly in route and length. The Sommeralm trail runs from Teichalm Lake to HoldahĂĽtt'n and back, covering 16 kilometres in total. The Hochmoor trail, by contrast, is a five-kilometre loop around Teichalm Lake and is skied in one direction. These descriptions refer to different types of route: one is an out-and-back trail, the other a loop with a set direction of travel.
At the Almerlebnispark Teichalm, the high ropes course has nine courses and more than 80 activities at different levels of difficulty. The park also has a 250-metre-long Flyingfox course. Right by Teichalm Lake is the “green energy park for families”, featuring an interactive discovery journey about renewable energy for children and families.
Pedal-boat rides are available on Teichalm Lake; seasonal availability may vary. If you plan to take a ride, check availability in advance. Fladnitz/Teichalm outdoor swimming pool is right in the centre of the village, below the Donner Inn. It has a heated outdoor pool and a children’s pool. Check the latest opening information before your trip.
Stockner Riding Stables offers riding lessons all year round, as well as rides and trail rides in the Almenland Nature Park. Alongside walking trails and cross-country ski trails, riding is another activity to choose from.
Culture and local production
The parish church of St Nicholas in Fladnitz an der Teichalm is a late Gothic new build; its tower chapel is dated to 1486. The vaults feature delicate vine paintings from 1512. The wooden sculpture trail leads to the summit of Gschaid-Nock. About 45 wooden sculptures line the trail, along with benches and energy fountains. They were created by woodcarver Erich Haider-Harrer.
Groups can visit the Leitner dairy to see how cheese is made by arranging a visit in advance. The dairy produces several varieties of cave-aged cheese from hay milk, as well as cream cheese and yoghurt. A visit to see the production process is available only to groups that have registered in advance.
