Wetzelsdorf offers several different points of interest to help you plan your stay. If you’re looking for a hotel, you can use the area’s attractions as a guide to your own interests: the Stations of the Cross and Planet Trail offer different experiences for walking, while the observatory and viewpoint feature astronomical themes. Other highlights include the “Die Wies’n” sports area, the village chapel and the Melbinger winery and vine nursery, with tasting and sales rooms. This gives you the opportunity to decide in advance which aspects of the area matter most to you and what you’d like to include in your plans.

Walking routes: Stations of the Cross and Planet Trail

The Stations of the Cross, which run between Edelsbach and Wetzelsdorf along the old church path, were redesigned in 1998. The route has fourteen stations and covers two kilometres on foot from Edelsbach parish church to the Dornhofer Chapel. Trail conditions may vary seasonally, so bear this in mind when planning your visit.

The Auersbach Planet Trail passes through Wetzelsdorf towards Kleinwalkersdorf. The 5.9-kilometre route stretches from the Sun to Pluto, making it considerably longer than the two-kilometre Stations of the Cross. The routes also differ in theme: the Stations of the Cross feature fourteen stations, while the Planet Trail spans the distance from the Sun to Pluto.

Observatory and viewpoint

The observatory in Auersbach was built in 2001. It has two domes with diameters of five and three metres, as well as two Meade telescopes measuring 16 and 12 inches. The domes differ in diameter by two metres, and the telescopes by four inches. The measurements use different units: metres for the domes and inches for the telescopes. There is also a viewpoint at an elevation of 380 metres beside the observatory. Here, you can visit a sundial and a stone circle modelled on Stonehenge.

“Die Wies’n” sports area

The “Die Wies’n” sports area stretches from the multipurpose hall in Wetzelsdorf, past the football pitch, to the adventure playground. The area’s disc golf course has eight holes. Unlike the walking routes, the focus here is on the sports area itself, including its disc golf course with a specified number of holes.

Village chapel and winegrowing

The history and location of the Wetzelsdorf village chapel offer another way to learn about the area. Construction began in 1935, and the chapel was consecrated to the Holy Cross on 10 May 1936. The dates distinguish the start of construction from the later consecration. The address is Wetzelsdorf 83, 8330 Feldbach. Its historical and religious associations complement the trails, observatory and recreational areas.

Melbinger winery and vine nursery has a tasting room and a sales room for its customers. If you’d like to include a tasting or a visit to the sales room in your stay, check the arrangements in advance, as they may change.
