Klöchberg can be explored through several different interests: the Klöcher Traminer Trail, the wine landscape of the extinct volcano, the “46 Colours” sculpture project and Styrian Buschenschank culture. When choosing where to stay, it is worth considering these themes separately. Routes, landscape, art and cuisine each offer a different focus.

Wine landscape and volcanic character

Klöchberg is an extinct volcano surrounded by vineyards. They are situated on high plateaus and on the slopes of the surrounding area, which has a strong volcanic character. The wine landscape therefore includes both uplands and hillsides. If you want to consider winegrowing and landscape together when choosing a destination, this combination offers a distinct focus. The volcanic character provides the landscape setting for the vineyards around Klöchberg.

Traminer Trail, viewing platform and wine road

Klöchberg is a named stop on the Klöcher Traminer Trail. The first section passes over Klöchberg and by the viewing platform; it reaches the platform via an agricultural access road. The Klöchberg viewing tower is also a named lookout point in its own right. Both the route of the Traminer Trail and the local viewpoints are therefore relevant to your planning.

The Klöcher Wine Road offers a different route: its western section continues over Klöchberg to Tieschen. The two routes have different points of reference. The Traminer Trail focuses on its first section over Klöchberg and the viewing platform; the Wine Road, on its western route to Tieschen. If you are considering Klöchberg as a starting point for your travel plans, you can distinguish between these details depending on whether you want to include the Traminer Trail or the Wine Road in your itinerary.

“46 Colours”: art in a distinctive setting

Tamara Grčić’s “46 Colours” sculpture project offers a cultural point of interest. The project meeting point is on Jodlschuster Weg in Klöchberg. The installation consists of coloured, mouth-blown glass spheres on a tuff stone wall in the Zara woods near Klöch. The part of the installation on this tuff stone wall has been permanently installed since 2018.

“46 Colours” brings together glass, tuff stone and a setting in the Zara woods. The coloured glass spheres and the stone wall give the work a distinctive connection to both materials and landscape. For a trip that takes an equal interest in art and its surroundings, the project offers a different focus from the Traminer Trail route or the wine landscape around Klöchberg.

Buschenschank culture in Klöchberg

At Buschenschank Palz Leo in Klöchberg, guests can experience Styrian Buschenschank culture. Regional specialities are served alongside wines produced on site. This gives wine a culinary dimension as well as a connection to the vineyards: the landscape reflects the local winegrowing, while the Buschenschank brings wine and regional specialities together. If you take both landscape and regional food culture into account when choosing a destination, this adds a distinct perspective to the other themes of Klöchberg.
