Kulm am Zirbitz offers nature, a hiking trail and a historic site as different starting points for planning your trip. The Doblermoos wetlands are located in the district; the St. Veit Circular Hiking Trail leads through a landscape of fields, forests and a bathing lake. Ansitz Doblhof adds a small castle dating from the 17th century and a historical episode from 1629 to the picture. In addition, an event organised by the Kulm Rural Youth attracts around 1,000 visitors each year.

Doblermoos: Wetlands and Wildlife

Doblermoos in the district of Kulm am Zirbitz comprises more than ten hectares of valuable wetlands. Ten hectares is equivalent to 100,000 square metres, so the area covers more than that. Seven amphibian species are known in the fen complex: yellow-bellied toad, common toad, European tree frog, common frog, Alpine newt, alpine newt and smooth newt. In addition to amphibians, birdlife is also represented with a time reference: until around 2015, at least 98 bird species had been recorded in the fen complex. The figures differ not only by animal group, but also in their time reference: the bird count explicitly refers to the period up to around 2015. For visitors interested in natural history, the specific species names and the dated bird count bring different facets of the natural environment to life.

St. Veit Circular Hiking Trail

The St. Veit Circular Hiking Trail starts at Doblhof and initially heads south. It then follows a field track into the forest, towards Sankt Veit in der Gegend. The trail passes through the nature park municipality of MĂĽhlen, past fields, through forests and alongside a bathing lake. You can plan around two aspects: the transition from the field track into the forest and the landscape features along the route. The southerly direction and this change of scenery define the initial stretch; fields, forests and the bathing lake complete the picture of the hike. Public parking is available at Doblhof, where the trail also begins. If you plan to use the car park when travelling there, check the latest information before your trip, as facilities may change.

Ansitz Doblhof and Local History

Ansitz Doblhof is a small castle dating from the 17th century. Its features include a grain store, stables and a brewery. The names of these buildings distinguish three functions of the complex: storing grain, housing animals and brewing beer. The year 1629 brings the history of Doblhof into focus through Georg Dobler. At that time, the estate was Dobler’s residence; he was the administrator of the Groß-Sölk lordship and was granted the title “von Toblhaim”. The century in which the small castle was built and the specific year in Dobler’s history answer different questions: one dates the building, while the other names a person and his position. For travellers interested in historic buildings as well as nature and hiking, Doblhof is a distinct cultural highlight.

A Festival as a Reason to Visit

Another reason to plan a trip is a festival organised by the Kulm Rural Youth, which attracts around 1,000 visitors each year. This is an approximate figure and should be understood as an indication of scale.
