Wildbad Einöd offers three distinct themes to help you plan your trip: the thermal spa, the protected area “Habitat of the Carniolan Broomrape” and hikes with different route formats. This lets you centre your stay around a clear focus: thermal waters, landscape or outdoor activity. This distinction is useful when looking for a hotel in Wildbad Einöd, as it highlights different reasons for travelling.

Thermal Waters and the Thermal Spa

The Wildbad thermal spa is the oldest in Styria. Its thermal and medicinal water comes from five springs, which are about 25 °C warm; the water is used for baths and drinking cures. The combination of springs, temperature and two forms of use makes the thermal aspect tangible. This describes the spa itself and helps you decide what to centre your trip around.

Protected Area and Landscape

The Wildbad-Einöd plant protection area “Habitat of the Carniolan Broomrape” covers one hectare. It is located near Dürnstein in Styria, at an elevation of 740 m in the Neumarkt Pass landscape. As a nature reserve, it forms part of the Olsa-Au. Its area, elevation and landscape setting provide different points of reference: size, altitude and natural environment. Its specific name identifies the protected site, while the Olsa-Au places it within a broader landscape context. This connects a precisely named protected area with a specific regional landscape.

Roman Bathing Complex

Bathing in Wildbad Einöd also has an archaeological dimension: a Roman bathing complex was identified east of the Olsa through geophysical surveys. For travellers interested in culture, this discovery adds a historical perspective to the thermal aspect. The Roman complex points to a different period from the use of thermal and medicinal water for baths and drinking cures.

Hiking: Loop or Stage

There are two distinct options for planning a hike. The approximately 18 km Wildbad Einöd circular hike runs from Wildbad Einöd via Pöllau bei St. Marein and back to the starting point. Via Natura Stage 07 runs from Wildbad Einöd along a forest and forestry track to Hopfgartenteich. The circular hike specifies an approximate distance and a return to the start, while the stage names Hopfgartenteich as its destination. These differences help you choose between a loop and a stage with a named destination, depending on your preferred route format.

Some sections of the circular hike run far into wooded areas, away from roads open to traffic. Sure-footedness is required on the section from St. Veit in der Gegend towards the Wildbad thermal spa. If you plan to take this section, bear this in mind when choosing your route. As routes may change, it is advisable to check the latest description before setting out.
