Peterdorf is especially easy to explore when planning a trip through its hiking routes. The Sunny-Side Loop runs from starting point S2 into the village as far as the Eichberg junction; the Shady-Side Loop runs around Sankt Peter am Kammersberg and Peterdorf. The two routes offer different highlights: named waypoints and forest paths help with navigation on the Sunny-Side Loop, while the Katschbach crossing and the return route along the stream define the course of the Shady-Side Loop. This lets you plan around the specific route features that matter to you for your outing.

Sunny-Side Loop: Waypoints and Forest Paths

On the Sunny-Side Loop, a forest and meadow path leads to the “Buttererkreuz,” Stage 3. The route also follows a forest path past a wildlife enclosure to Mühltratte. These sections provide different points of reference: at the Buttererkreuz, the path type and stage number help with navigation; toward Mühltratte, the forest path and wildlife enclosure are named landmarks. The route also runs from starting point S2 into Peterdorf as far as the Eichberg junction. So the route description includes both specific waypoints and the section through Peterdorf. If you choose the Sunny-Side Loop for your trip, you can use these names as specific navigational references.

Shady-Side Loop along the Katschbach

The Shady-Side Loop runs around Sankt Peter am Kammersberg and Peterdorf. It crosses the Katschbach just before Peterdorf’s village sign. On the way back, the route follows the stream to the starting point. The sequence helps with navigation: the crossing is before the village sign, and the return route follows the Katschbach. Speckbauer, a snack station, is also along the Shady-Side Loop.

Comparing the Hiking Routes

The difference between the two hikes is clear: the Sunny-Side Loop runs from S2 through Peterdorf to Eichberg and is described by its waypoints and forest paths. The Shady-Side Loop runs around both villages and is marked by the stream crossing and the return route along the Katschbach. If you prefer to navigate by stage and trail names, the Sunny-Side Loop offers specific reference points. If you want a hike whose route is shaped by the stream, the Shady-Side Loop is a suitable alternative to compare.

Recommended Hiking Seasons

The recommended periods differ slightly, too. The Shady-Side Loop is recommended from April to November, while the Sunny-Side Loop is recommended from April to October. The two periods therefore overlap from April to October; November is included in the recommendation for the Shady-Side Loop only. If you are traveling in late autumn, take this difference into account. Also check the local recommendation for the Sunny-Side Loop before setting out.

Cycling Route through Peterdorf

Another option for planning your trip is the “Stolzalpe Circuit” cycling route. It runs through Althofen and Peterdorf and continues to Sankt Peter am Kammersberg. Alongside the hiking routes, this provides a cycling route with a clearly named sequence of places that you can distinguish from the hiking trails when planning. The route may change if it is revised. So check the current route before setting out, especially if you are including it in your plans.
