In Zlem, activities range from skiing at the Spechtenseelift and cross-country skiing on the Spechtensee trail to swimming, fishing, cycling and hiking. When choosing your travel dates, it is important to note that several activities are seasonal or subject to changing conditions. The tours differ in mode of travel, route format and starting point, which you can take into account when planning.

Skiing and Cross-Country Skiing

At the Spechtenseelift, well-groomed ski slopes extend across a total of 2.3 kilometres at an elevation of 1,100 to 1,260 metres. The lift operates seasonally. Its history dates back to 1966. The Spechtensee trail is an easy cross-country ski trail, about 5.6 kilometres long, that loops around the Spechtensee. The two winter activities therefore differ both in type and in the reference details provided: the lift is described by its elevation and slope length, while the trail is described by its length and difficulty level.

Both the access road to the Wörschachwald panoramic route and the access to the Spechtensee cross-country ski trail lead from the B145 at Klachau/Zlem towards Wörschachwald. The Wörschachwaldweg runs for about 6 kilometres to the Spechtenseelift. Check road conditions before setting out.

Spechtensee and Seasonal Activities

The Spechtensee is a popular spot for bathing and swimming; these activities are seasonal. Day fishing licences for the Spechtensee are available at the Spechtenseehütte. This visitor service is also seasonal, so check availability before your trip.

Cycling and Hiking Tours

The family-friendly Spechtensee-Runde 315 is a 26.6-kilometre circular tour from Stainach to the Spechtenseehütte and through the Wörschachwald. If you are planning a cycling route, this one has a named starting point and destination, and passes through the forest. The Dachsteinblick–Gindlhorn, described as a bike-and-hike tour, leads to Wörschachwald and includes a hike up the Gindlhorn. From Gasthof Dachsteinblick, a short, scenic hike also leads up the Gindlhorn, offering impressive panoramic views.

On the Hechlsteinrunde, a via ferrata leads to the summit of the Hechlstein, and the return route follows an easier hiking trail. The two sections therefore differ in route type. As alpine route conditions can vary, check conditions before your tour.
