Vorderglemm: Hiking Trails, Alpine Pasture Loop and Bike Trails
Accommodation in Vorderglemm
Activities range from a flat winter walk to an Alpine pasture loop with a climb; the bike trails also differ in surface and route layout.
Hiking trails with different route layouts
The S03 Saalach Promenade runs alongside the stream and covers about 4 km to Jausern in Vorderglemm. It is an easy, flat winter walk. When planning, you should take seasonal conditions into account.
The S01 Sonnseit Promenade hike is a circular route. It crosses the bridge by the Schönleitenbahn and continues to Jausern after descending to the main road. From there, you can take the bus back to Saalbach as part of this hike. If you plan to use this option, check the seasonal bus timetable in advance. The J01 Jauser Alm offers a different route: it climbs to the Jauser Alm and then returns to the starting point along the same path.
The Vorderglemm Alpine Pasture Loop: Climb, Descent and Detours
The SH 32 Vorderglemm Alpine Pasture Loop runs from the starting point by the Schattberg X-Press along the Glemmtal cycle path to Jausern. It initially follows tarmac, then climbs on gravel into the alpine pasture area. This makes it quite different from the flat Saalach Promenade: the climb and changing surfaces shape the route.
The descent winds down to the valley floor in a series of hairpin bends via the Thurneralm and Bergeralm. At 1,700 m, the loop briefly runs just below its highest point. Impressive views down into the Vorderglemm valley gradually open up. The route also passes the middle station of the Schönleitenbahn and the Rachkuchl. Two optional detours lead to the Wildenkarkogel and the Schönleitenhütte. Check the hut’s seasonal availability; the detour offers a connection to the Saalfelden Leogang mountain bike network.
Different Profiles on the Bike Trails
The Wildenkaramba Line is a natural trail with an unmanicured surface, roots, small stones and tight turns. By contrast, the ScheeLeitn Line at Schönleiten features shaped berms, rollers and jumps for a rhythmic trail ride. The two lines therefore differ in the route features that shape the riding experience. As trail conditions and configurations can change, check them before your visit.
Schönleitenbahn and Car Park
The SH 32 passes the middle station of the Schönleitenbahn. For winter 2026/27, the Schönleitenbahn I+II is listed with a route length of 2,767 m and a vertical drop of 968 m; it operates seasonally. There is an open-air car park at the valley station. Check the current parking rules and hours before you travel, as they may change.
Regional History
Historically, Saalbach, including Vorderglemm and Hinterglemm, was a poor farming community; skiing brought about economic change. In the wider Saalbach area, including Vorderglemm and Hinterglemm, the ski terrain is associated with the Pinzgau Grass Mountains.
