Werfenweng combines mountain panoramas and a variety of trails with winter activities, local history and insights into agriculture.

Hiking trails and mountain panoramas

Bischling offers 360-degree mountain panoramas. Werfenweng has 99 kilometres of hiking trails; the Spazierhimmel Werfenweng is a 12-kilometre network of walking paths. These distances refer to differently named offerings: hiking trails on the one hand and a network specifically designated for walking on the other. Check local conditions before hiking.

Getting there: travel information

The W3 shuttle was developed as public transport for the last mile between Bischofshofen station, a transport hub, and the tourist municipality of Werfenweng. For a train journey, this last mile is a separate part of your travel planning. Check the current route and booking conditions before travelling.

Winter activities

Local cross-country ski trails lie at the foot of the Tennengebirge. Check current trail conditions before cross-country skiing. In winter, paragliding enthusiasts head for the 1,840-metre-high Bischling; check flying conditions and the provider’s information. Tobogganing is also possible in the evening thanks to lighting. Check in advance whether it is currently operating. The details to check differ by activity: trail conditions, flying conditions or operating information.

Church, pilgrimage and ski history

The Catholic parish church of Mariae Geburt in the centre of Werfenweng was consecrated in 1509. The Salzburg heritage register dated 30 June 2025 lists it as a protected monument. A small spring, still a popular destination for pilgrims, lies about 100 metres from the church. The wayside shrine known as the Ursprungskapelle Weng, near Werfenweng, is also listed as a protected monument in the Salzburg heritage register dated 30 June 2025. The two buildings are protected monuments, while the spring continues to attract pilgrims to this day. The Salzburg FIS State Ski Museum traces the development of skiing from its beginnings around 5,000 years ago to modern ski racing. If you are planning a visit, check current access to the museum separately.

Family activities and agriculture

The family-friendly KID'S Snowpark has eight themed trails. Right in the town centre, by the Dorfbahn Rosnerköpfl, Dein Berg offers action, relaxation and enjoyment for the whole family. The Agriculture themed trail uses lovingly illustrated, easy-to-understand information boards to explain life on and around the farm, as well as the work of the farmers. At the Werfenweng farm shop, local farmers offer products from their own production. Check current opening hours before visiting. The themed trail and the farm shop have different focuses: the trail shares information about agriculture, while the shop offers products from the farmers’ own production.
