Discover Kuchl: Lake, Georgenberg and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Kuchl
Kuchl offers a range of things to enjoy during your stay: a centrally located swimming lake, trails on Georgenberg, local history and cycling connections through the Tennengau. If you are looking for a hotel in Kuchl, your interests may help you decide—for example, a walk around the Bürgerausee, a bike ride or a stay with a focus on cultural history. The places and activities show the different ways you can explore Kuchl.
BĂĽrgerausee, Tree Trail and River Surfing
The landscaped BĂĽrgerausee is located right in the centre of Kuchl. The 1.5-kilometre-long Tree Trail runs around the lake. This leisurely walk is suitable for the whole family and is accessible with a pushchair. The short route thus combines nature with an easy walk in the town centre.
Right next to the Bürgerausee, on the Salzach, is the “Kuchler Schwall” surf wave, a hotspot for river surfers. The swimming lake, walking path and wave cater to different interests on the water: spending time by the lake, walking along the Bürgerausee or river surfing on the Salzach.
Georgenberg: Trails, Cliffs and Church
On Georgenberg, leisurely hiking routes follow a paved road around and up the hill; there are also hiking trails through the forest. The routes therefore vary in type: the network includes forest trails as well as the paved road.
Georgenberg is a so-called inselberg, with steep, towering cliffs. The Waldrapp breeding station is located on one of the cliffs; the birds can be observed there during the rearing period. Georgenberg is also home to the listed late Gothic branch church of St. George. The landscape, birdwatching and church architecture offer different ways to experience the hill, which you can take into account when planning your stay.
Local History and Regional Experiences
The Kuchl Museum on Severinplatz, next to the parish church, presents local history and traditions and displays unique exhibits. If you would like to get to know Kuchl through more than just its landscape, the museum offers an insight into the town’s history.
The traditional Kuchl Bauernherbst fair is held on the second Sunday in September every year. Specific event details may vary from year to year, so check them if you are planning your stay around the fair.
One hands-on activity is the “Make Your Own Cheese” workshop at the Fürstenhof organic farm cheesery, which requires a reservation. Participants make their own cheese, from milk to finished product, and take part in a tasting. They can also take home around 850 grams of cheese and receive a certificate as a Salzburg Almsommer Cheesemaker. While the fair has a set date in September, the workshop is a hands-on cheese-making experience.
Landscape and Cycling Connections
Kühschwalb is a secluded natural spot with views of the cliffs of Hoher Göll. The spot lies at the head of the valley beneath the eastern slopes of the Göll-Ostwand. The Nesslangeralm lies at the foot of Hoher Göll.
Two connections are of interest to cycling travellers: a well-signposted cycle path runs from Kuchl through the entire Tennengau to the city of Salzburg. Another route crosses the Salzach in Kuchl and follows the Tauern Cycle Path towards Golling. If Salzburg is your destination, the first connection is relevant; for travel towards Golling, the Tauern Cycle Path is the route mentioned.
Salzburg is also accessible from Kuchl by public transport: with the Guest Mobility Ticket, the City of Mozart is just 20 minutes away by S-Bahn or bus, free of charge. Check the timetable and ticket conditions for your travel dates.
