Consider whether you would prefer to include a circular trail, a hike with more elevation gain, an e-bike tour or a visit to the thermal baths. This will help you decide what to focus on during your stay without confusing the different routes and activities.

Tauglgries and Schlenken Passage Cave

Tauglgries is a protected landscape area where the Taugl winds its way through a gravel bed up to 100 metres wide. The Taugl is a habitat for animals, plants and people, as well as a nature reserve and recreational area. Another natural highlight is Schlenken Passage Cave: it is designated a natural monument and is one of around 25 caves in the area. The river landscape and the cave thus represent different aspects of nature in Bad Vigaun.

Hikes with different profiles

The “Lebensader Taugl” themed trail is a circular route with information boards about the animals and plants of Tauglgries. Described as an easy walking route, it is 4.8 kilometres long, with 49 metres of elevation gain and an estimated duration of around 1.25 hours. These figures give you a specific point of reference for planning your time. As route conditions can change seasonally, check them before setting out.

The moderately challenging hike up Schlenken from the Wurzer parking area offers a different challenge. It is listed as 6.3 kilometres long, with 612 metres of elevation gain and an estimated duration of around three hours. Compared with the circular route along the Taugl, it is longer, has significantly more elevation gain and takes more time. This lets you distinguish between the two hikes based on their route and elevation profiles.

The “Lebensader Tauglwald” themed trail follows a forest path that provides plenty of shade in summer. This route can also be hiked with a stroller. It therefore offers another option for a walk in the forest, in addition to the two trails with their published distances and elevation gains.

Thermal spa and e-bike tour

The Bad Vigaun thermal spa offers a thermal bathing area, a sauna world and beauty treatments. The thermal water comes from the St. Barbara spring at a depth of 1,354 metres. In addition to the trails, you can consider a visit to the thermal spa as a focus of your stay.

For cycling, a challenging e-bike tour up Trattberg is described. The route, described in May 2024, starts in the village square in Bad Vigaun, passes through Kuchl and St. Koloman, and covers around 44 kilometres with 1,300 metres of elevation gain. Check current route conditions before setting off.
