Pressbaum: Local History and Trails through the Beech Forest
Accommodation in Pressbaum
Pressbaum brings together two clearly distinct highlights: a town museum and a striking Art Nouveau church showcase local history and architecture, while numerous hiking trails through the beech forest and a cycling network offer opportunities for outdoor activities. As you plan your trip, consider whether culture, hiking, or cycling should be the main focus. Pressbaum can be reached via the Western Railway line and its own motorway exit.
Culture and Local History
The new town museum officially opened on 1 May 2025 on the third floor of the town hall; its permanent exhibition is devoted to Pressbaum’s development. The “Kaiser-Franz-Joseph-Jubiläums-Pfarrkirche” is the only Art Nouveau church in Lower Austria and was consecrated on 21 June 1908. These are two distinct cultural themes: the town’s development as presented in the permanent exhibition, and a building with a distinctive architectural classification. The two dates span the period from the church’s consecration in 1908 to the museum’s opening in 2025.
The Marian Chapel at the parish church is open during the day as a space for prayer and devotion. If you are planning a specific visit, check the local information.
Hiking, Cycling, and Landscapes
Pressbaum maintains numerous hiking trails through the beech forest and has a cycling network. The “Tut Gut!” hiking route in Pressbaum, Route 1, starts at Pfalzauer Kirchenweg and leads through the Vienna Woods, which are home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. If you prefer to choose a tour with a fixed starting point, you can follow Route 1; the wider network of hiking trails and the cycling network offer other options. The choices differ by activity and by whether you want to take a specifically named hiking route.
Kaiserbründl is the source of the Wien River in Pressbaum. The spring structure at this source has been known as “Kaiserbründl” since a visit on 23 April 1882. Wienerwaldsee is a reservoir and the largest still body of water in the Vienna Woods. Together, these are two different kinds of water features: a source and a reservoir; Kaiserbründl also has a history behind its name, which is linked to a specific date.
