When planning a stay in Laimbach Am Ostrong, hiking trails and historic sites offer different points of interest. The routes vary in length, designated difficulty and trail surface; the parish church of St. Margaret is both a historic landmark and the starting point for several trails. This allows you to consider hiking and cultural interests side by side when planning your trip.

Circular Hiking Trails by Length and Difficulty

The Laimbach Circular Hiking Trail is an easy 7.06 km route with a duration of 1:30 hours. It starts and ends at Laimbach Parish Church. The circular trail offers views of the Ostrong, including its highest peak, the 1,061 m-high Peilstein. The Kälberhof Circular Hiking Trail covers 5.22 km, is rated moderate and also takes 1:30 hours. It passes through Thaya and reaches the Kälberhof farm track. The two circular trails therefore have the same stated duration but differ in length and rating. This comparison can help you assess the tours based on specific route details.

Longer Trails and Views

The Hirschenstein Höhenwanderweg is 16 km long and starts at Laimbach Parish Church. The route follows forest roads for 70% of its length and paved farm tracks for 30%. In addition to the distance, you can also take the described changes in trail surface into account when planning. A much larger regional loop is Circular Hiking Trail No. 22: it covers around 170 km through the Southern Waldviertel hiking region and passes through Laimbach.

The Riederberg route passes through mixed forest to the summit cross on Kleiner Peilstein, at an elevation of 1,024 m. From the west, the drive to the Riederberg route follows the A1 to the Ybbs exit, continues along the B25 to Persenbeug, then follows the B36 to Laimbach am Ostrong. Parish Church and Cultural History

The Church of St. Margaret became an independent parish in 1336. Under the ordinance, Laimbach am Ostrong Parish Church of St. Margaret and its cemetery are listed as protected monuments. The church is therefore both a historic landmark and the starting point for the Hirschenstein Höhenwanderweg and the Laimbach Circular Hiking Trail.

A wayside chapel east of Laimbach houses a newly framed votive image of Maria Taferl, created in the 19th century. The Ostrong farm lies southwest of Laimbach on the slope of Peilstein; it may have been a fortified farmstead dating from the 14th century. The history of the parish, the votive image and the cautiously worded interpretation of the farm offer different cultural topics to consider alongside the hiking trails when planning your trip.
