Kottingburgstall is an old farmstead dating back to the 9th century. Hubertendorf Castle stands in the cadastral municipality of Kottingburgstall; its building history includes a renovation in 1614 and a later construction period from 1782 to 1813. The routes described here also offer practical starting points for planning your trip, from a Kneipp walking trail to activities in the municipality of Blindenmarkt.

Hubertendorf Castle and its architectural history

Hubertendorf Castle is protected as a monument under a decision pursuant to Section 3. It is a three-storey, three-wing building set in a park-like alluvial forest landscape. The terms describe different aspects of the architecture: “three-storey” refers to the number of floors, while “three-wing building” describes the division of the building into three wings.

The two historical dates highlight different aspects. In 1614, a farmers’ mill was converted into a hunting lodge. From 1782 to 1813, Georg Adam von Starhemberg had Hubertendorf Castle built using stones from the ruins of Karlsbach. The building’s history therefore includes both its transformation from a mill into a hunting lodge and the use of stones from a ruin. The castle’s architectural form, landscape setting and several historical phases are all relevant to understanding it.

Walking routes and their different highlights

The Blindenmarkt Kneipp walking trail starts at the local Raiffeisen bank, passes through the town centre towards Kottingburgstall and is designated as a walking trail. It leads to a water basin for Kneipp treatments in Harland, where there is an illustrative instruction board. The route also includes a well-maintained herb garden and a shady place to rest. Anyone interested in Kneipp treatments will find several described stops along this same route.

The Aichbergweg passes Windlucke and goes by Burgstaller Kogel to Kottingburgstall, then returns from there to Blindenmarkt’s town centre. The two route descriptions offer different landmarks for orientation: the local Raiffeisen bank is named as the starting point for the Kneipp walking trail, while Windlucke and Burgstaller Kogel are part of the Aichbergweg route before it returns to the centre of Blindenmarkt.

Activities in the municipality

In the municipality of Blindenmarkt, the routes around the three bathing lakes of the Auseen Blindenmarkt invite visitors to go for walks, cycle and skateboard. The activities described therefore have different highlights: the Kneipp walking trail features treatments, a herb garden and a shady place to rest along the route, while the Auseen offer several leisure activities linked to the paths by the bathing lakes.

Another local attraction is Konditorei Phönix, located within the historic walls of Hubertendorf Castle. Cakes and desserts are prepared fresh there. As business details may change, check the latest information before visiting.

Kottingburgstall cycle path

The first construction phase of the Kottingburgstall cycle path was completed in autumn 2025. If you are including the cycle path in your plans, check its current completion status before setting off.
