A trip to Hartelsberg can appeal to a range of interests: hiking on the Koralpe, winter sports and local cultural history each offer a distinct focus. If you are looking for a hotel in Hartelsberg, you can first consider which of these activities and destinations you want to shape your trip. The routes differ in their course and destination, while the cultural sites each have their own historical details.

Hiking on the Koralpe

The Koralpe hiking area has an extensive regional network of trails. The panoramic trail to Goding leads from the Koralpe car park along hiking trail no. 4 to the Sonnhof inn in Goding and offers wonderful views of the Lavant Valley. The route thus combines a clearly named destination with views across the valley.

A panoramic circular hike leads to the Großer Speikkogel, the highest point on this hike at an elevation of 2,141 m. On the descent, the Koralpe circular tour follows trail no. 591 past the Poms Waterfall and back to the starting point at the Koralpe car park. In the Koralpe hiking area at Hartelsberg 70, the hike to the Poms Waterfall also begins below the car park on trail no. 591; it usually takes about 50 minutes. The tours mentioned therefore differ in their destinations: an inn at the end of the trail, a summit with a stated elevation, or a waterfall with an approximate duration.

On a flower walk on the Koralpe, you can admire rare Alpine plants. This seasonal focus on nature draws attention to the plant life and complements tours that focus on a summit, waterfall or scenic views.

Winter sports and other activities

The Koralpe ski area has excellently groomed slopes and plenty of space for winter sports enthusiasts. The Heizhaus is located in the centre of the ski area and offers views of the ski area. This provides a distinct winter sports focus alongside hiking.

Tandem paragliding flights are offered on the Koralpe by the company Touch The Sky. The model aircraft flying field is located right in front of the Alpengasthof Waldrast. Tandem paragliding and model aircraft flying are two different aviation activities; the model aircraft flying field is described by its location in front of the inn, while the company offering tandem flights is named.

Cultural landmarks and their history

The Hartneidstein Castle Ruins are a listed monument in the cadastral municipality of Hartelsberg, according to the monument register dated June 19, 2026. To reach the ruins, take the L140 towards Riegeldorf. In Riegelsdorf, follow the road to Hartelsberg and then the signs to the ruins.

The Husarkreuz is a larch-wood wayside shrine with a small wooden crucifix and was erected on June 15, 2002. A hiking trail from Wolfsberg passes the cross and continues to the Lippi inn. The Husarkreuz is therefore both an independent cultural landmark and a named point along this trail.

The Binderkreuz has been in place for around 150 years and was most recently renovated in 2009. The former farm building known as vulgo Binder no longer exists, but the cross has been preserved. These details distinguish its approximate history from its later renovation.

Choose the focus of your stay

Hartelsberg offers a range of themes to consider when planning your trip: specific hiking routes, winter sports on the Koralpe and cultural landmarks with their own histories. The hiking trails can be distinguished by their destinations and stated durations; the flower walk and ski area offer different seasonal highlights. If you are looking for hotels in Hartelsberg, this thematic comparison can help you decide which focus best suits your trip.
