History between mining and churches
Mining in the Siflitzgraben shaped the area's economy for centuries, beginning in the late Middle Ages. The history can also be traced through the dates of individual churches and buildings. The parish of Lind in the Drava Valley is documented from 1242. The Maria Hilf branch church was consecrated in 1347 and was formerly the chapel of Unterlind Castle. The ruins of two castles also lie above Lind.
The Wallnerhaus in Lind dates from around 1500 and is Late Gothic. It therefore offers a different historical reference point from the parish's early documentary mention or the consecration of Maria Hilf. Anyone interested in the area's history will find several specific points of reference in these different dates and buildings.
Churches and listed buildings
Gajach is home to a Late Gothic branch church with massive buttresses. Its pointed triumphal arch bears the date 1528. The Chapel of the Visitation of Mary in Fellbach belongs to a different building period: it is a Late Baroque structure with a 3/8 polygonal end and was altered in the late 19th century. Comparing these buildings brings the municipality's different architectural forms and historical dates into focus.
As of June 19, 2026, Kleblach-Lind railway station, the Wallnerhaus in Lind and several church complexes are protected as historic monuments. These include the Catholic branch church of St. Lambertus and the old cemetery in Lengholz, as well as the Catholic parish church of St. Bartholomew and the cemetery in Lind. At Maria Hilf, its former connection to Unterlind Castle and the year of its consecration, 1347, come together; in Gajach, meanwhile, the date 1528 is inscribed on the triumphal arch. These different details offer a point of reference if you are interested in architectural history and historical connections.
