Plaschischen: Hiking Trails, Lake Access and Pile Dwellings
Accommodation in Plaschischen
Plaschischen can be considered for trip planning in terms of two specific themes: Lake Keutschach and several hiking trails. There is free access to the lake in the village; a circular hike passes through Plaschischen, while the Pyramidenkogelweg Keutschach starts here. This brings different types of stays together: time by the lake, a tour through several named places, or a trail that climbs to the observation tower. Choosing between these priorities gives your daily plans a clear starting point.
Hiking Trails and Stages
The St. Anna–Trattnigteich–Pyramidenkogel–St. Margarethen circular hike passes through Plaschischen. The village is therefore part of the route. The Pyramidenkogelweg Keutschach starts differently: its starting point is Plaschischen, and along Trail 27 it heads towards St. Margarethen. These are two different route connections for orientation: a circular hike through the village, and a trail with a named starting point and a designated direction.
The Pyramidenkogelweg also includes the climb to the observation tower on the Pyramidenkogel. The tower is therefore a specific landmark along this trail, in addition to its direction towards St. Margarethen.
One stage of the Keutschach circular trail is called Keutschacher See/Plaschischen. It is listed as 507 m, 1.2 km long, with a walking time of fifteen minutes. This means both a distance and a time are provided for this section, making it easier to fit into your daily plans.
Lake Access and Local Landmarks
Free access to Lake Keutschach is in Plaschischen, between the lido and the campsite. These two landmarks indicate where to find access in the village. Gerti's Strandbad Keutschacher See is another specifically named location: it is at Plaschischen 54, 9074 Keutschach am See.
The Liendl farm is right on Lake Keutschach and has its own bathing beach for guests. Unlike the free lake access in Plaschischen, this beach is for the farm’s guests.
Pile Dwellings and Lakeside Habitat
In the wider surroundings of Plaschischen, a 6,000-year-old pile-dwelling settlement from the Neolithic period lies in Lake Keutschach. It is strictly protected. Lake Keutschach is also a protected, species-rich habitat with bogs and wetlands. The lake therefore has two distinct aspects: the settlement represents its Neolithic history, while the bogs and wetlands characterise its habitat.
