Radsberg lies on the Sattnitz mountain ridge. Highlights of the village include the parish church of Radsberg/Radiše, New Year singing and the “Radsberg – North Loop” hike. Paragliding is also closely linked to the area: Radsberg is the home base of the 1st Carinthian Radsberg Paragliding Club. Building history, local traditions, a named hiking route and a flying site with an elevation difference of 400 metres offer a range of different points of interest.

Church and Building History

The parish church of Radsberg/Radiše is a unified late Gothic building dating from the beginning of the 16th century. It was mentioned in documents in 1216 as a chapter parish of Maria Saal; the imposing west tower was built in 1557. The three dates refer to different historical milestones: the documentary mention of the parish, the construction of the church at the beginning of the 16th century, and the construction of the west tower in 1557.

New Year Singing and Cultural Events

For New Year singing, men from the villages of Radsberg go from house to house at the turn of the year, singing the old New Year song “Je žavost prevelika”. The men’s choir of the Radsberg/Radiše Slovenian Cultural Association sings the same song in all nine Radsberg villages during the three days before New Year. The custom thus has two sides: going from house to house and choral singing across all nine villages.

A dated cultural event took place on 26 April 2026: the Kulturni dom Radiše hosted the traditional “Družinsko petje 2026”, organised by the Krščanska kulturna zveza (KKZ) together with the Slovenian Cultural Association (SPD) Radiše. In the annual calendar, this spring event sits alongside New Year singing, which is tied to the turn of the year.

Commemoration and Historical Context

The “Memorial to the Deportation of Carinthian Slovenes” was erected in 1996 in front of the cultural centre in Radsberg/Radiše. From April 1942, Slovenian-speaking families in southern Carinthia were taken from their homes in several operations. After a stop at the Ebenthal/Žrelec assembly camp in Klagenfurt, they were deported to various forced-labour camps. The two dates mark different events: 1996, when the memorial was erected, and April 1942, when the deportations began.

Hiking and Paragliding

For paragliding, Radsberg is the home base of the 1st Carinthian Radsberg Paragliding Club. The flying site has an elevation difference of 400 metres. This figure refers to the flying site; it is not a measurement for the hike. The elevation difference is therefore a feature of the flying site, while the hike is described by its named stops.

The “Radsberg – North Loop” hike passes through Höfleinmoor and Moosberg to Radsberg, then continues through the Gurnitz Gorge. In this order, Höfleinmoor and Moosberg come before Radsberg, followed by the gorge. The hike can thus be understood as a route with several named landscape features, while the parish church and the memorial are separate points of cultural and historical interest.
