For a trip to Töpriach, the hike on the Hoher Gallin and the village community’s Gmanfest offer two specific points of interest. They are joined by a summit panorama, another cross in the surrounding area and farm-fresh bread. When planning, it is worth considering the duration, route length, festival date and availability separately.

Hiking on the Hoher Gallin

The hike on the Hoher Gallin can start in Töpriach and takes about two to three hours. The “Hoher Gallin Weg” is 7.10 kilometres long and passes through the village of Töpriach on the descent. Töpriach is relevant in both respects: as a possible starting point for the hike and as the place the route passes through on the way down. Time and distance answer different questions. The duration gives you an approximate time frame, while the number of kilometres indicates the route’s length. Use the approximate duration as a guide, not as a minute-by-minute estimate.

The Hoher Gallin is 1,046 metres high and, alongside the Taubenbühel, is the highest elevation in the Lake Wörthersee area. From the summit, there are panoramic views of Lake Wörthersee and the surrounding mountain peaks. Those planning a hike with a clearly named summit destination will find the elevation and the view to be two specific points of reference here.

There is limited parking in Töpriach for the “Hoher Gallin Weg.” Factor the limited number of spaces into your travel plans and check local parking conditions before your visit, as they may change.

Village festival and summit cross

The Töpriach Gmanfest is an annual traditional festival organised by the village community and held at Schuschnighof. On 14 June 2025, the village community invited visitors to the 19th Gmanfest. If you are planning to travel for the festival, check the date locally for the year you have in mind. Another occasion was the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Gallin summit cross on the Hoher Gallin, held on 3 May 2025. Numerous hiking enthusiasts set off from the Grünanger crossroads in Töpriach and walked to the summit. This means that an annual village festival and a specifically dated summit-cross anniversary offer two distinct reasons to visit.

Other local points of interest

The Gallin summit cross is associated with the Hoher Gallin. The Tschachonig Cross in the area around Töpriach is another, distinct point of interest. It is eight metres high and is considered the largest and most significant cross in Carinthia.

Farm-fresh bread is available from DI Rudolf Grünanger at Töpriach 1. If you would like to include a purchase in your stay, check current availability, opening hours and access directly in advance.
