Warren brings together wetlands, public art and local history, along with walks, golf and events. If you’re looking for a hotel in Warren, these varied themes give you a concrete sense of what may shape your stay in town. Nature and river ecosystems sit alongside exhibitions about Warren’s history, while murals and sculptures add a cultural perspective. The places and activities below can help you plan your trip around your interests.

Wetlands and river history

Tiger Bay Wetlands is on the outskirts of Warren, along Coonamble Road, and is a natural overflow of the Macquarie River system. The wetlands are home to many bird species and aquatic plants. The landscape brings together the distinctive features of the river system and habitats for birds and aquatic plants.

At the Window on the Wetlands Centre, visitors can learn about complex wetland and river ecosystems, Warren’s history, or the internationally recognised Macquarie Marshes through educational exhibits. The Warren Shire Visitor Information Centre is located on the grounds of the Window on the Wetlands Centre at 2 Coonamble Road, on the Oxley Highway, Warren NSW. The exhibits and Visitor Information Centre are therefore at the same location.

History and art in Warren

The Warren Museum and Art Gallery is housed in a restored historic building at 142 Dubbo Street. Near Warren is Beemunnel, a significant cultural site where Aboriginal families lived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. An interpretive trail is located 1.5 km past the Window on the Wetlands Centre, on the Oxley Highway.

Two walks offer different experiences: you can take a self-guided walk in Tiger Bay Wetlands, or discover numerous murals, sculptures and water tower art on a walk through Warren. This gives you the choice of a nature walk or a stroll featuring public art.
