Goyang offers travelers several distinct ways to explore: royal tombs from the Joseon Dynasty, fortress history, parks and wetlands, as well as sauna and spa options. The city’s cultural and tourism interpreters provide visitors with expert information on history, culture, nature and other tourism resources at major attractions. If you plan to use this service, check the latest operating details before your trip. This will help you focus your trip on cultural history, nature or relaxation.

Royal Tombs and Fortress History

The Goyang West Five Royal Tombs are a group of five royal tombs from the Joseon Dynasty and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A visit usually takes about an hour.

Haengjusanseong Fortress on Deogyangsan Mountain was the site of one of Korea’s three major victories over the enemy during the Imjin War (1592–1598). The Chungjangsa Shrine, honoring General Gwon Yul, is located within the fortress. The tombs and fortress therefore offer different historical perspectives: the Joseon Dynasty at the tombs, and the memory of the Imjin War and General Gwon Yul at the fortress.

The Haengjusanseong Fortress History Park includes the Hangang River Observatory, converted from former military posts. The park also features a fence-side photo zone, Baramgaebi Hill and a spacious lawn. The observatory and other park features add tangible places within the park to the historical perspective.

Parks, Wetlands and the Seasons

Ilsan Lake Park is an artificial lake park created as part of an urban development project. It has a walking trail, a riverside plaza and facilities for ecological experiences. The park also hosts International Horticulture Goyang Korea, as well as cultural and seasonal events. If you are visiting for a particular event, check its dates separately.

The Janghang Wetland offers a different landscape, with an ecological exploration trail running through its willow forest. Access to the interior of the wetland is restricted to civilians. Before visiting, check the current access rules and observe the boundary between the exploration trail and the restricted interior.

The trail behind Ingneung is also shaped by the seasons. It passes through the surrounding forest, which visitors can enjoy in spring and summer; in autumn, maple trees can be seen there. The timing of the fall colors can vary. If you are planning to visit the forest specifically for its autumn colors, take this natural variation into account.

Wellness and Special Visit Conditions

Aquafield Goyang offers jjimjilbang facilities with traditional saunas and spa options. Its traditionally designed sauna rooms include a charcoal room, a clay room and a Bulgama sauna. Themed jjimjilbang rooms include a media art room and a cloud room, among others. The infinity pool is the facility’s standout feature. The variety of rooms and offerings gives wellness its own distinct profile alongside the historical and natural attractions.

At Wondang Horse Ranch, visitors can watch horses moving around the pasture. The ranch trains jockeys and equestrian professionals; it is not a municipal public park. Check the current access rules before visiting, and do not assume that observing the horses is the same as visiting a general public park.

Events and Dining in Goyang

The Goyang Special Tourist Zone was established to attract visitors from Korea and abroad. Its cultural program includes live performances, music competitions and seasonal festivals. As individual dates may vary, check the program before your trip if you want to attend a particular event.

The Haengjuoe-dong Eel Village, a cluster of eel restaurants, is located near Haengjusanseong Fortress. If you plan to eat there, check the availability of the individual restaurant separately.
