The destinations in Pu'er and the surrounding area offer different thematic highlights: tea culture, historic urban districts, park landscapes, and a specific noodle meal. Simao Old Street is in the central urban area; the Chinese Pu’er Tea Expo Garden and Dipo’er Biotea Valley are nearby. This lets you consider city history, tea, and seasonal natural features as different interests during your stay.

Tea destinations nearby

The Chinese Pu’er Tea Expo Garden is a tea-focused day-trip destination with a 4A rating; it is 24 km from the urban area of Pu’er. Dipo’er Biotea Valley is 10 km from the urban area and combines tea culture with technological innovation and architecture. The two destinations therefore differ both in distance and thematic focus: tea takes center stage at the Expo Garden, while Biotea Valley also features technology and architecture. In each case, the distance is measured from the urban area, not given as a driving time. Information about both destinations dates from 2022; as operations may change, check their current visitor status before setting out.

Driving time to the Tea Horse Ancient Road Tourism Area

The Tea Horse Ancient Road Tourism Area is about a 15-minute drive from Pu’er Railway Station. A 2022 tourist route gives this approximate driving time; it may vary depending on traffic. It refers to the journey from the railway station to this tourism area and cannot necessarily be applied to other destinations. For your day’s itinerary, it is advisable to check the latest driving time and route before setting out.

Historic center and preserved architectural forms

Simao Old Street is in the central urban area of Pu’er and is considered the city’s most representative historical and cultural district. At its core, Daijia Lane preserves nine Qing-era brick-and-wood houses. Zhu Shi Street is a main street in Simao Old Street; its historic street layout and old shopfronts have been preserved to this day. The features offer different points of emphasis: Daijia Lane foregrounds the houses, their construction, and their era, while Zhu Shi Street highlights the preserved streetscape and shopfronts.

Simao Old City began to take shape in 1729 and was designated an important historic area of Pu’er in 2021. Both dates are important for understanding its timeline: 1729 marks the beginning of its development, while 2021 marks its later designation. The city’s historical development and its status as an important historic area thus represent different stages in the city’s history.

Parks and seasonal natural features

Xima Lake Wetland Park in the urban area of Pu’er features waterways, shade trees, pavilions, lotus blossoms, and waterbirds. Meizi Lake Park also features shade trees, pavilions, lotus blossoms, and waterbirds; its water features include bodies of water. The two parks can therefore be compared by their water features: waterways at Xima Lake Wetland Park and bodies of water at Meizi Lake Park. Lotus blossoms and bird activity are seasonal, so these features depend on the timing of your stay.

A noodle meal on Simao Old Street

At the Simao-Weishi Dou Tang Mi Gan shop on Simao Old Street, diners season rice noodles and eat them with hot bean and peanut soup. This meal adds a specific food example to the historical and scenic themes. A description from June 2025 tells of the shop and this way of eating. Before making a special trip, check whether the shop is still open.
