Heihe: Hotels for Your Stay
Accommodation in Heihe
When looking for a hotel in Heihe, it helps to first decide which themes matter most for your stay: riverside scenery, museums and memorial sites, or seasonal activities. Heilongjiang Park lies in the north of the urban area and stretches along the Heilongjiang River. It is 3,100 meters long and covers 42.5 hectares. The park is a prominent part of the cityscape, while the cultural institutions offer further insights into Heihe.
Riverside Park and Seasonal Activities
The western end of Heilongjiang Park begins at Heihe Wharf. Various excursion boats, as well as cargo and passenger ships, are moored there on the river. To the north, the park is landscaped as the botanical garden area of Dahihe Island and is connected to the island by a pedestrian bridge and a road bridge. On the south side of the park, rows of European-style buildings stand beyond Wangsu Road.
In winter, Heilongjiang Park is suitable for snow and ice activities. These include ice and snow sculptures, as well as rides on ice sleds. This seasonal focus is a distinct aspect of the park, alongside its riverside location and botanical garden area.
The River as a Geographical Reference
Heihe’s water transport port faces the Russian city of Blagoveshchensk on the opposite bank of the Heilongjiang River. Blagoveshchensk is the third-largest city in Russia’s Far East and the capital of Amur Oblast. This location across the river is also a defining geographical feature of Heihe.
Museums and Memorial Sites
The Heihe Museum is located at 241 Hailan Street in Heihe’s Aihui District. Its exhibitions cover the region’s natural products, its history, and its economic and social development. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions from Heilongjiang and other regions of China, including educational and popular science content. Regional themes are thus presented alongside changing exhibits from other parts of China.
The Memorial Hall for Chinese Emigrants to Russia is housed in the former Tongji Pawnshop, which is designated as an important protected cultural heritage site in Heilongjiang Province. Its permanent exhibition is titled “Historical Exhibition on Chinese Emigrants to Russia and Russian Students Studying in the Soviet Union.” The theme of emigration to Russia and the history of the former pawnshop give the site two distinct historical connections.
Two other memorial sites are located in Wangsu Park. A tower commemorates the Soviet Red Army soldiers who died in the defeat of Japanese imperialism and the liberation of Heihe in northeastern China. The same park is home to the tomb of Wangsu, the first commander of the Heihe Military District and the first Party secretary of Heihe District, who died fighting bandits. The two sites are connected to different chapters of local history.
Around Heihe
The China-Russia Folk Culture Park is located around Heihe. In October 2020, it was designated a national 4A-rated tourist attraction. Its original layout included an Oroqen area, a film production base, an artificial landscape lake, a Russian street, and an Eight Banners labyrinth. This original design brought together cultural, landscape, and film-related elements.
