Lakeside scenery and nature education nearby

Guishan Park is on the north shore of Chaohu Lake. It covers around 100,000 square meters and is about five to six kilometers from the city center. An observation platform extends toward the lake, and there is also a lakeside walkway at Chaohu Lake. The park grounds, waterfront, and platform offer different vantage points over the waterside landscape.

At Guishan Park, a nature education center focuses on wetland culture and wetland studies. Children can learn about wetland types and bird and plant specimens, and explore the protection of birds and wetlands. The area around the destination thus combines lakeside and landscape themes with nature education.

Culture and scenery in the wider region

In the wider region around Chaohu Lake, Laoshan is the largest island and lies opposite Zhongmiao Temple on the north shore. A 2019 description classifies the Laoshan Scenic Area as a national scenic area rated 4A. Its features include islands, lakeside scenery, temples and pagodas, wetlands, and rural landscapes. Wenfeng Pagoda stands on the island: it is 51 meters high and has seven stories. Zhongmiao Temple was founded in 239 AD and has a history of nearly 1,800 years.

The Zhaozhong Shrine is also in the wider region. A 2019 description calls it a well-preserved historic building in the Huizhou architectural style. Li Hongzhang had the shrine built in 1892 in memory of the fallen soldiers of the Huai Army. The building therefore combines a specific historical dedication with a distinctive architectural classification.

Other destinations in the region include the Huatang River Wetland in the Zhongmiao area of Chaohu Lake. It covers about 500 mu and was developed into a wetland park following ecological restoration. Shankou Park in the Zhongmiao Shankou area offers a green space for relaxation and recreation. Both destinations complement the island and temple scenery with different kinds of natural and open spaces.
