The parks offer a range of highlights: the Lake Washington shoreline, wetlands rich in birdlife, forest trails, cycling routes, and outdoor art. You can shape your stay around whether you’re looking to spend time by the water, in nature, on trails, or with a cultural touch. The following places offer different ways to do just that.

Shoreline, Wetlands, and Water Activities

Luther Burbank Park has a 0.75-mile shoreline along Lake Washington. At its northern and southern ends are wetlands that are home to, among other wildlife, 135 bird species and 50 species of waterfowl. The lakeshore and wetlands together give the park its strong connection to nature. If you’d like to include birdlife and scenery in your stay, the park is a natural focal point for planning your day.

Luther Burbank Park is also equipped for activities on the water, with facilities for swimming, boating, and fishing. This provides a distinct recreational focus alongside the park’s natural features. If you’d rather spend your time actively on the water, these options are clearly different from an outing focused mainly on forests or hiking trails.

Forest Trails and Open Landscapes

Pioneer Park is a 113-acre forest with 6.6 miles of trails. The park also includes steep ravines, small forested wetlands, and a stream. Forest and varied landscape features define this destination for an outing. In contrast, Island Crest Park offers hiking through open landscapes. The main difference lies in the surroundings described: forest with ravines, wetlands, and a stream on one hand, and hiking through open landscapes on the other. This lets you choose the focus of your outing based on the type of landscape that interests you.

Trail, Art, and History

Aubrey Davis Park includes the Mountains to Sound Greenway (I-90) Trail, the Greta Hackett Outdoor Sculpture Gallery, and a boat launch. Here you’ll find different ways to enjoy trails, outdoor art, and boating. When planning your day, you can consider these as separate interests rather than viewing the park through a single lens.

Clarke Beach has fishing and swimming piers. The beach was also formerly the site of Girl Scout Camp Tarywood. At Clarke Beach, the fishing and swimming piers are paired with a historical connection to the area. By comparison, the features noted at Aubrey Davis Park are the trail, outdoor sculpture gallery, and boat launch. The two places therefore offer different highlights for activities by the water and outdoors.

Cycling at Different Skill Levels

If you’d like cycling to take up a larger part of your day, the Bike Skills Area is a dedicated option. It has beginner and advanced bike trails with jumps and other features. The two designated skill levels provide a concrete point of comparison when choosing a trail; the jumps and other features give a clearer sense of the area’s character. The Bike Skills Area is open for use daily from sunrise to sunset; closures due to weather or repairs are possible. If you’re planning to visit, check beforehand to see whether it’s closed.
