Explore Sevier County
Accommodation in Sevier County
Sevier County offers a range of reasons to visit: activities on the water and riverside paths draw visitors to the river, while elsewhere the focus is on rock art, ATV routes or scenic byways. If you’re looking for a hotel, you can start planning your trip around the experiences you want to shape your stay.
Rivers, Fishing Waters and Seasons
The Sevier River attracts whitewater rafters, tubing enthusiasts, anglers and campers. A developed, popular bike path runs along its east side. You can access the Sevier River Trail at the mouth of the canyon, as well as in Joseph, Elsinore and Central. These offer different ways to enjoy the river and its trails; local conditions may vary.
Otter Creek also offers a range of outdoor experiences. Otter Creek Reservoir is considered an important fishery, where anglers can pursue record catches. In spring and fall, birdwatching is possible along the Pacific Migratory Bird Flyway at Otter Creek State Park. This seasonal opportunity is quite different from fishing, so consider whether you’d rather plan your trip around spring or fall migrations or time on the water. Check the rules and conditions in effect before fishing.
ATV Routes and Rock Art
Otter Creek State Park offers direct access to three ATV routes, including the Paiute Trail System. With three routes and direct access, the park is a practical starting point for travelers planning ATV rides. Trail conditions can change, so check them before setting out.
Fremont Indian State Park offers camping and access to the Paiute ATV Trail. Rock art and structures from the Fremont culture are also visible there. The park brings together two distinct interests: exploring archaeological traces and enjoying activities on the trail. The Forest Service officially renamed one section of the Paiute Trail the Max Reid Trail. Knowing this name history can be helpful for navigating the route if you come across both names.
Scenic Byways and Remarkable Landscapes
The Fishlake Scenic Byway runs through Fishlake National Forest and to Utah’s largest natural mountain lake. The road is paved and suitable for all vehicles; seasonal conditions may affect its suitability. Pando is on Utah Highway 25, the Fishlake Scenic Byway, between the Rust Springs Pull-off and the Lakeside Store. It’s a good idea to check current road conditions before you drive.
The Sevier River Corridor offers a different perspective on the landscape: the route follows US-89 alongside the Sevier River and through the valley it has shaped. Right on the route, in Marysvale Canyon, is Big Rock Candy Mountain, a colorful geological formation. Travelers who enjoy taking in landscapes from the road will find a different focus here than at the riverside activities or on ATV routes.
Fish Lake is a 2,500-acre lake known for fishing and boating. These two activities give the lake its own focus among the many trip ideas: you can plan around time on the water or make a scenic byway and its landscapes the centerpiece of your visit.
