Nephi: Rodeo, Town History, and Hotels
Accommodation in Nephi
Nephi combines the Ute Stampede with town history and seasonal activities. If you’re looking for a hotel in Nephi, first compare your travel dates with what you’re most interested in: the rodeo traditionally takes place during the second week of July, early-morning lap swimming is offered for the 2026 season, and the Mount Nebo Scenic Loop is closed in winter. The event dates, seasonal pool information, and winter route closure follow different timelines. Depending on what shapes your trip, compare each of these details with your travel dates individually.
The Ute Stampede as a reason to visit
The Ute Stampede Rodeo is PRCA-sanctioned and traditionally takes place in Nephi during the second week of July. The annual schedule may differ from the usual dates, and individual offerings may change; therefore, check the event calendar for your specific travel dates. The Ute Stampede began in 1934 and has grown into one of Utah’s largest festivals. In addition to the rodeo, the festival includes a carnival, two parades, and a classic car show. This makes it more than just a rodeo competition: when planning, you may want to consider whether the rodeo itself or the rest of the festival program is part of the reason for your trip.
Town history and Old Mill Park
The Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum is located in Nephi’s old county courthouse and is operated by the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers. For a history-focused visit, you can distinguish between two different points of interest: the museum in the old county courthouse and Old Mill Park with its historic water wheel.
Old Mill Park is a historic park in the town center. Its features include a historic water wheel, small tables, plenty of shade, and a garden. There is also a short walking path, landscaped grounds, an old mill-race feature, benches, and a picnic table; the park borders Salt Creek. The water wheel associated with Old Mill Park dates to 1859, is considered the last surviving remnant of a busy gristmill, and is recognized as a National Historic Landmark.
Swimming pool and seasonal conditions
The Nephi City Swimming Pool has a swimming pool, a diving board, a new tube slide, a climbing wall, and a wading pool for toddlers. Early-morning lap swimming is offered there for the 2026 season. Lap swimming is open to the public and does not require a reservation. This information applies to the 2026 season and cannot automatically be assumed to apply to later years; if you’re traveling in a later season, it’s worth checking the latest information. Amenities range from the swimming pool and diving board to the slide, climbing wall, and wading pool.
The Mount Nebo Scenic Loop follows a different seasonal pattern. It is closed in winter because of heavy snowfall; the closure lasts from late October until June or July. If the route is part of your plans, factor this period into your choice of travel dates and check the latest information before departure.
