A trip to Young can focus on historic sites, cultural offerings, or time by the water. For orientation: Lake Graham is on Salt Creek in Young County, five miles north of Graham on US 380. Attractions range from Fort Belknap and historic markers to museums, performance venues, and recreational activities at the lake. If you’re looking for hotels in Young, it’s best to plan your days around the places you want to visit first.

Historic Sites and Culture

The Old Fort Belknap Powder Magazine is the best-preserved of Fort Belknap’s original structures. The fort was the northern anchor of a line of U.S. Army forts that stretched from the Red River to the Rio Grande. A military road between Fort Belknap and Fort Worth was built in 1851. The archway of the courthouse, built in 1884, still stands at the site of the Third County Courthouse. There are 50 sites marked with historic markers in Young County, including five national historic sites.

The Old Post is a local institution dedicated to the history, art, and culture of Young County and is wheelchair accessible. The Young County Museum of History & Culture is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; check again before your visit. The Historic Walking and Driving Tour explores Graham’s history through cowboys, Native Americans, oil, and ranching. If you plan to take the tour, confirm its availability in advance.

The Young County Veterans Memorial includes a seven-foot-tall star made of red granite. It bears the names of 157 men and women from Young County who have died in service to their country since World War I. The memorial and historic markers offer a different perspective on the county’s history than the early forts and the preserved courthouse archway.

Theater, Movies, and Events

The Graham Memorial Auditorium is an active Art Deco performing arts theater for dance and symphony orchestra music. The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra has performed there annually since 1947. The National Theatre dates back to 1919 and shows first-run films on three different screens. Movie schedules and operating information may change; check them before visiting. The Graham Drive-In Theatre is one of the few remaining drive-in theaters in Texas. Confirm that it is still operating before your trip.

The Main Arena at Young County Arena measures 150 feet by 250 feet and has seating for 2,500 people. At the annual Food Truck Championship of Texas in Graham, participants compete for a $10,000 grand prize. The prize, dates, vendors, and event format may vary by year. Check event details if an event is the reason for your trip.

Lake Graham, Fishing, and Camping

Lake Graham has three public boat ramps, a fishing pier, and a picnic area. There are also sites for basic and improved camping. Fishing for hybrid striped bass and white bass in the lake is rated as good. However, conditions can change with the season and water level.

Overnight camping at Eddleman Park includes ten tent sites and twelve RV sites. Check reservations and fees again before arrival. Firemen’s Park has a playground, a dog park, a disc golf course, picnic tables, and the Addie Pavilion. These parks add more options for spending time outdoors to the activities at Lake Graham; the listed campsites at Eddleman Park should be considered separately.

Outdoor Activities and Planning Your Hotel Stay

Possum Pedal 2026 runs through Young County. For this edition, routes of 6, 27, 40, 55, and 70 miles are listed; routes may change in future editions. If you’re planning your trip around participating or attending an event, check the dates and details for that edition.
