Discover Kemah: Bay Views, Nature Trails, and Rides
Accommodation in Kemah
When planning a trip to Kemah, you can focus on different things: views of the bay, nature trails, wildlife encounters, or rides. The School House General Store and Visitor’s Center offers maps, brochures, event information, dining recommendations, and directions to attractions. This information can help you choose activities and organize your interests for your stay.
Nature Trails, Playground, and Bay Views
The 57-Acre Park and Nature Area has a fully accessible, nature-themed playground for children ages 5 to 12. The facility is specifically designed for this age group. The area also has concrete paths and fitness trails for walking and jogging. Selected plants provide habitat for butterflies, birds, and pollinators. You can experience the park from different perspectives: as a place to exercise, as a playground, or as a place to explore its cultivated habitats.
The Lighthouse Pavilion Pocket Park offers views of the bay, and visitors can take photos there. Together with the plants in the park and the bay views, this offers a different focus from the rides: here, the emphasis is on scenery and photo opportunities. Passengers can also see the Boardwalk and Galveston Bay from the top of Drop Zone.
Water and Rides
The Kemah Boardwalk Marina has more than 400 well-maintained boat slips for vessels of different sizes. For visitors interested in boats, the number of slips gives a concrete sense of the marina’s size; it describes the marina, not the choice of activities on land.
The Boardwalk Beast is a 25-minute speedboat ride on Galveston Bay. The boat travels about four miles out into the bay and reaches speeds of up to 40 mph. Schedules are seasonal and may change. Check the current departure times before making plans. This makes it easy to distinguish this ride, which has a set duration, from the rides on land.
The Boardwalk Bullet is a wooden roller coaster with 42 track crossings. It is located five feet from the shore of Galveston Bay. Drop Zone opened on March 6, 2026, as a 140-foot-tall thrill tower and was officially opened to the public. The opening description noted a climb to more than 100 feet, followed by a free fall at speeds of up to 47 mph. Passengers could see the Boardwalk and Galveston Bay from the top. Since operating status may change, check whether Drop Zone is currently open before visiting.
A February 2023 announcement described the Electric C.P. Huntington™ Train as a ride that lets passengers see various rides in the Boardwalk complex up close. For your plans, check separately whether this ride is currently operating.
Get Up Close to Animals
At Stingray Reef, visitors can touch and feed live stingrays. The Rainforest Exhibit features piranhas, snakes, scorpions, tarantulas, and turtles. These attractions are quite different from a speedboat ride or roller coaster: they focus on animals and the variety of species. If you have several interests, you can treat the animal encounters, time in the nature area, and rides as separate activities.
