If you’re looking for a hotel in Oakmont, it helps to first decide what you’d like to focus on during your stay: local history, trails and cycling, or a cultural program. Oakmont offers a range of options. Museums and historical tours are different from cycling on trails or visiting the Oaks Theater; your choice depends on which of these activities you plan to do.

Local History at Museums and on Tours

Oakmont Country Club is a National Historic Landmark in the boroughs of Oakmont and Plum. It received the designation on June 30, 1987.

The Oakmont History Center & Museum houses photographs, artifacts and memorabilia from Oakmont, as well as a research center and archives. Admission is free to the public. Visitors who want to explore local history through collection items and archival materials will find a different approach here than on a tour of Oakmont. Access arrangements for the collections may change.

The Oakmont Historical Society offers historical walking tours of Oakmont. Unlike a museum visit, these tours make the town itself the subject. Tour dates may change; check them before making plans.

The Kerr Memorial Museum depicts the life of a middle-class family in the late 19th century. The house is located in Oakmont. During a tour, visitors can see all the rooms on the first and second floors, the basement and Dr. Kerr’s medical office. The tour therefore covers both the way of life depicted and several areas of the house. Tour arrangements may change; check them in advance.

Trails and Cycling

Dark Hollow Woods has 3.5 miles of trails where cycling is permitted. Falling Springs has about 1.5 miles of trails intended for multiple laps for enjoyment and exercise. The comparison is therefore between a longer trail network where cycling is allowed and a shorter, approximate distance specifically intended for repeated laps.

Creekside Park has a paved VeloSolutions pump track, installed in July 2021. Riders build momentum on the track by moving their bodies up and down rather than pedaling or pushing. If you plan to cycle, you can choose between trail rides and this distinctive way of riding on a pump track.

A landscaped pedestrian path runs along the business district. This provides a dedicated route for getting around the business district. Trail conditions, facilities and park rules may change; check current conditions before your visit.

Events at the Oaks Theater

Today, the Oaks Theater is a modern event venue for live music, improv comedy, live theater, lectures and games. If you’d like to plan your stay around an event, check the dates in advance, as the program may change. The theater offers buttered popcorn, movie-style candy, as well as flatbreads and wraps. The food selection may also change; if needed, check what’s currently available before your visit.
