Discover Madras
Accommodation in Madras
Explore Madras through a variety of interests: a scenic route, World War II aircraft, water activities, and insights into local production. There’s also rockhounding, BMX, and golf. When planning your trip, it helps to decide what you want to focus on: Should the landscape, an activity, or a particular subject guide your choice? Each option offers a distinct starting point.
A route with scenic views
The Madras Mountain Views route starts in Madras and forms a 30-mile loop. Looking out over Lake Billy Chinook, it features basalt cliffs and seven peaks of the Cascade Mountain Range. Its length and loop format give this scenic route a clear framework; the basalt cliffs and peaks are the specific landscape features named. This sets it apart from individual activities such as swimming, golf, or rockhounding: the focus here is a loop route with designated scenic highlights.
Water activities and aircraft
The Madras Aquatic Center (MAC) has three aquatic areas and a water slide more than 300 feet long. Its programs include open swim, lap swim, swimming lessons, and water aerobics; program times may change. The activities listed range from open swimming and lap swimming to lessons and exercise in the water.
The Erickson Aircraft Collection displays more than 20 World War II aircraft and is located near the Madras Municipal Airport. The aircraft on display may change. These are two distinctly different themes: water activities at the MAC and a collection of historic aircraft. If you want to choose based on a specific interest, these details offer clearer guidance than the general term “recreation.”
Local production and rocks
At New Basin Distilling Company, the local connection starts with the ingredients: it uses local grain and water from nearby Opal Springs to make spirits. Cascade Lavender offers a different focus. Its offerings include display gardens and a plant nursery, as well as u-pick and oil distillation; there is also a gift shop and farm animals. The two destinations differ in their focus: one is about ingredients for spirits, the other about plants, garden experiences, and farm animals.
Richardson’s Rock Ranch has agate deposits with thunder eggs and ledge agate material, and offers rockhounding and photography. Geology and the two named activities go hand in hand here. This sets it apart from the gardens at Cascade Lavender: at the Rock Ranch, the focus is on agate material and rockhounding, while Cascade Lavender offers plants and agricultural experiences.
BMX and golf as additional options
Madras Bike & Skate Park has bowls, rails, and other obstacles where BMX riders can practice tricks and jumps. This is a clear contrast to rockhounding at Richardson’s Rock Ranch: one offers obstacles and BMX practice, while the other features agate deposits, rockhounding, and photography.
Desert Peaks Golf Club is open daily, weather permitting. The hours for the course and clubhouse may vary depending on the season and conditions. Check the hours before your visit so your plans take these differences into account. Scenic routes, water activities, an aircraft collection, gardens, rockhounding, BMX, and golf all offer different ways to choose what to focus on during your time in Madras.
