The restored Warren G. Harding Home preserves many of Warren and Florence Harding’s original furnishings. The house is also connected with the 1920 Front Porch Campaign—a special window into the area’s political history.

History Through a Home, Museum and Memorial

Tours of the Warren G. Harding Home begin on the hour and last 45 minutes to an hour. Allow for this time and check the current schedule before your visit. The Harding Presidential Library & Museum presents the lives of Warren and Florence Harding; the Memorial contains the graves of the president and his wife.

At the Harding Memorial Presidential Gravesite, displays at an educational kiosk provide information about the site’s history. The site is open from sunrise to sunset and is free of charge. The home, museum and memorial each have a different focus: original furnishings, the lives of the Hardings and their graves.

The Marion County Historical Society offers historical exhibits, educational programs and public events. Its recurring events include an annual dinner with performers portraying historical presidents. The program combines a shared meal with living history.

Linn School is a one-room schoolhouse established in 1897. Tours and structured programs let visitors experience what school life was like in an earlier era. Seiter Log Cabin offers additional insight: built in 1851, the cabin is located on the Marion County Fairgrounds.

Another collection explores an unusual aspect of regional history: the Wyandot Popcorn Museum was founded in 1982 and moved in 1989 to the historic U.S. Post Office building in downtown Marion. There, it displays restored popcorn wagons and peanut roasters beneath a circus tent. The exhibits make the equipment itself the main attraction and give the museum a distinctive atmosphere.

Trails, Natural Areas and Seasonal Experiences

The Marion Tallgrass Trail is a 12.44-mile paved, multi-use recreational trail that extends to the Hardin County line. After crossing State Route 203, the trail reaches the Big Island Wildlife Area. An adaptive bike rental program for people with physical disabilities is available by reservation.

Terradise Nature Preserve has hiking trails and geocaching. The area was recognized as an Ohio Natural Landmark in 1990; more than 100 bird species have been recorded there. An oxbow from a former river course provides habitat for breeding wood ducks. A walking trail also winds through the woods along the Whetstone River, which is also called the Olentangy River.

Other places offer different views of nature. Greenspur includes wooded areas and a small wetland pond. Myers Woods invites visitors to take a short walk through quiet woodland. Marion Community Foundation Lake is a 53-acre lake near Herr Road. Quarry Park covers 83 acres, including 23 acres of water.

For mountain bikers, Wicked Walt’s Mountain Bike Trail is a clearly described option: the 4.3-mile singletrack is rated intermediate and is located in Marion Quarry Park. This specific information about its length and difficulty can help you choose a route.

The calendar can also play a role in planning. Lawrence Orchards hosts Harvest Saturdays from late August through late October; specific dates may vary from year to year. Check the dates before your visit if you’d like to plan your stay around this seasonal offering.
