Napoleon combines parks along the Maumee River with water activities, golf and local history. If you’re looking for a hotel for a stay in Napoleon, you can plan around the theme that interests you most: river parks, swimming, architecture or the history of Henry County. The sites have different focuses, ranging from city parks to an aquatic center and historical museum collections.

River Parks with Distinct Features

Ritter Park is located on the Maumee River. It is home to the City of Napoleon’s boat launch and also has a historic stone shelter. Ritter Park was once a state park and was built in the 1930s. Oberhaus Park has another clearly defined connection to the river: it borders the Maumee River on its north side. A public boat launch extends 250 feet along the river in the park. The parks therefore offer different features: Ritter Park has its stone shelter and former state park history, while Oberhaus Park has a public riverfront launch.

Water, Multi-Use Trail and Golf

The Napoleon Aquatic Center combines a recreational area with a competition pool. The recreational area includes a zero-depth entry, playground features and splash features. The facility also has two large water slides. The competition pool has eight lanes. These areas give the center distinct focuses: recreational and splash features on one hand, and a lane pool specifically designated for competition on the other. Seasonal operating hours may vary; check the latest visitor information before your visit.

Vorwerk Park includes the Miami, Wabash & Erie Canal Trail, a multi-use trail, and also offers access to fishing. The Napoleon Golf Club is another separate option: it is a 9-hole golf course. When comparing activities, these destinations differ not just in name but also in what they specifically offer—a multi-use trail and fishing at the park, compared with a golf course.

History and Architecture in Napoleon

The Henry County Historical Society currently operates two historic museum sites in Napoleon, Ohio. Visiting hours at each site may vary; check the schedule for each one in advance. The Dr. John Bloomfield Home & Carriage House Museum is a Victorian-era Queen Anne home. The Dr. John Bloomfield Home contains historic furnishings from the mid-19th century through the 1930s. The Carriage House museum area houses a large collection of artifacts from Henry County. This makes it possible to distinguish a view of interior furnishings and furniture from a particular period from a collection relating to the county.

Another landmark for local history is the Henry County Courthouse: it is Stop No. 1 on the Napoleon History Tour. Its architecture is in the Victorian Second Empire style, with French influence. The courthouse therefore provides a specific architectural point of reference alongside the collections at the historic museum sites. Together with the stone shelter at Ritter Park, Napoleon’s historic side encompasses both individual buildings and insights into the region’s history.
