Clermont County: Trails, Rivers and History
Accommodation in Clermont County
East Fork State Park lies along the East Fork of the Little Miami River in central Clermont County and offers opportunities for boating. Alongside experiences on the water, trails with different surfaces, nature observation, and museums with their own areas of focus shape the region’s travel ideas. You can tailor your stay to whether you’d rather spend your time outdoors or combine nature and history.
Water, Trails and Nature
Kelley Nature Preserve is also worth considering for river activities: it has more than two miles of hiking trails and access to the Little Miami River for canoes and kayaks. The preserve is also suitable for birdwatching. Hiking, paddling, and birdwatching are presented as distinct options; information about the trails and water access can help you plan.
Trail surfaces also vary in specific ways. The Williamsburg to Batavia Hike/Bike Trail is six miles long, paved, and intended for runners, walkers, skaters, and cyclists. Rowe Woods has 20 miles of award-winning trails. Its trail network includes accessible boardwalks over ponds as well as natural, sloping trails with gravel or mulch surfaces. When comparing trails, you can use these details about length, surface, and landscape as a guide.
Ten Mile Creek Nature Preserve covers 31 acres. A level trail there runs through a meadow, past ponds, wet meadows, and wetlands, and along a creek. Visitor amenities include a parking lot, gravel trails, picnic benches, wildlife viewing opportunities, and a bridge over the pond spillway. The described trail network thus connects a meadow landscape with several kinds of wetlands and bodies of water.
At Stonelick State Park, land and water areas are listed separately: it covers 1,058 acres of land and 200 acres of water. Camping is also available there. Clermont County is part of the western region of the Ohio River Scenic Byway project—an overarching regional designation alongside the individual nature and culture themes.
Museums and History
The Tri-State Warbird Museum is dedicated to remembering those who fought for freedom and those who sacrificed their lives in doing so. The collection includes a P-51D Mustang, a B-25 Mitchell, and other fully restored, airworthy aircraft. The museum is open Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; check opening hours before your visit.
At the U.S. Grant Birthplace, you can visit the birthplace of Ulysses S. Grant, a Civil War general and two-time president of the United States. You can also learn about the house’s history up to its return to Point Pleasant. Admission is free; donations are accepted.
The Clermont County Freedom Trail includes 42 significant sites; 22 of them have been officially included in the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom. A mobile audio tour lets you explore the trail on your own. The Cardboard Boat Museum offers a different historical focus: visitors can learn about the origins and development of the annual Cardboard Boat Regatta.
Seasonal themes are also part of the offerings: Sugar Shack at Pattison has seasonal, hands-on programs for all ages about collecting and making maple syrup. If you’d like to combine nature trails, museum visits, and seasonal experiences like these, the different themes can help you plan a trip around your own interests.
