Discover Brevard: Nature, Trails and Music
Accommodation in Brevard
Brevard lies in a quiet valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Visitors come for its music and festivals, shops, waterfalls, trails, rivers and quiet forests. When choosing travel dates, it is worth keeping the different occasions in mind: nature and trails shape the town, as do a seasonal music program and recurring events throughout the year.
Landscape and Trails in Brevard
West of downtown is Bracken Preserve, which borders Pisgah National Forest. Another landmark is the Brevard Greenway. This trail system runs through the entire town, is designed for multiple uses and connects to Pisgah National Forest. This gives you two distinct points of reference for planning: a named place west of downtown and a trail system that runs throughout Brevard.
The Estatoe Trail offers specific route details: it is six miles long, paved and has several access points. One is at Brevard Depot Park, 390 Railroad Avenue. Jimmy Harris Railroad Depot Park has a large public parking lot that provides access to the Estatoe Trail system. The Greenway and Estatoe Trail can be distinguished by different features: the Greenway is defined by its route through town and its multiple uses, while the Estatoe Trail is described by its length, surface and access points.
Waterfalls are also part of the town’s identity: Brevard is known as the “Land of Waterfalls” and has 250 waterfalls. Bracken Preserve, the Greenway connected to Pisgah National Forest and the specific route details for the Estatoe Trail each offer a different perspective on the natural landscape and trails.
Downtown, Silvermont and History
Downtown Brevard is home to more than 110 independently owned shops, including boutiques, galleries, cafés and restaurants. This mix offers a different focus from the trails and natural areas: you can also plan your stay around what downtown has to offer, without needing a particular occasion.
Downtown is also home to eight-acre Silvermont Park, a county park. At its center stands a 33-room Colonial Revival mansion listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The park and mansion give Silvermont its own historical focus within downtown.
A museum is located on the second floor of Silvermont. For 2026, seasonal opening hours are listed from March 1 through the end of October: the museum is open every week on Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. and Fridays from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m., except on holidays. Check for possible holiday exceptions before planning your visit. These set hours are especially useful if you want to combine a museum visit with time in the park.
Music and Recurring Events
The Brevard Music Center is a summer institute and festival that also offers a year-round concert series. The summer program is therefore not the only musical point of interest for trip planning. If attending a concert is important to you, check the specific event schedule before your trip.
Two recurring events fall at different points in the calendar year: the three-day White Squirrel Weekend takes place every year over Memorial Day weekend in downtown Brevard. Brevard celebrates White Squirrel Day annually on February 2. These details can help you time a visit around either event, without conflating them with the seasonal music program.
The Transylvania Farmers Market takes place every Saturday morning in the Brevard community. Along with the shops, galleries, cafés and restaurants downtown, it offers another distinct point of reference for weekend planning.
Getting Here and Choosing When to Visit
Brevard is accessible via numerous major highways and interstate highways. Visitors from the Research Triangle and Charlotte can reach the town via I-85. To choose your travel dates, you can first decide whether you want to plan around the trails, the music program, the museum’s opening hours or one of the recurring annual events.
If you’re looking for a hotel in Brevard, this focus may influence your choice of dates: museum hours are seasonal, the Brevard Music Center offers a year-round series, and the two White Squirrel events take place at clearly specified times of the year.
