The Callicoon Farmers Market takes place at Callicoon Creek Park. It is a producer-only market: produce and handmade goods come exclusively from within a 75-mile radius. This connects food and handcrafted products within a clearly defined sourcing area. Operating details may change; check the latest information before your visit.

Railroad and Local History

The settlement was initially known as Callicoon Depot. During construction of the Erie Railroad’s Delaware Division, it served as one of the staging areas in 1848. Callicoon grew into a bustling, prosperous community around the depot. In 1906, the U.S. Postal Service renamed the place Callicoon.

Callicoon Methodist Church and its parsonage also tell the story of the town’s architectural history: the church was built in 1871 and the parsonage in 1889. Together, they are considered a largely intact late-19th-century vernacular church complex under Criterion C. For those interested in architecture, this designation offers a concrete glimpse of the historic built environment.

Another notable date is February 28, 1888. Following a severe snowstorm, a major fire destroyed most of Callicoon’s Main Street that day. The town’s history thus includes both its growth around the railroad and a devastating loss in what was then the center of town.
