Fleischmanns – Art, History and Park
Accommodation in Fleischmanns
Fleischmanns offers several different starting points for planning a trip: art, its history as a Catskills resort, and recreational opportunities at Fleischmanns Village Park. There is also the history of the Mountain Athletic Club and the Catskills Scenic Byway on Route 28. You can plan your stay around the local connections that interest you—from the gallery and museum to the park and scenic route.
Art and the History of the Mountain Athletic Club
The 1053 Art Gallery presents multidisciplinary work by emerging artists and mid-career artists. Its profile therefore spans different artistic disciplines and career stages. If art is one of the factors you consider when choosing a destination, the gallery offers a specific point of interest.
The Mountain Athletic Club (M.A.C.) was founded by Julius and Max Fleischmann in Griffin Corners, now Fleischmanns, New York. The M.A.C. Grounds are located in Fleischmanns Park and are listed on both the New York State Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places. The club’s founding and the historic listings are two distinct points of reference: the club was established in Griffin Corners, while the listed Grounds are in the park.
Local History at the Museum
The Fleischmanns Museum of Memories displays artifacts and photographs about Fleischmanns’ history as a Catskills resort. The museum also covers local industry, the railroad, and early baseball. Its look at local history therefore ranges from the area’s development as a resort to topics in working life, transportation, and sports. This historical perspective complements the gallery’s focus on art with specific themes from the area’s past.
Fleischmanns Village Park
Fleischmanns Village Park has tennis courts, a baseball field, an accessible playground, and a concession stand. The park also provides access to Bushkill Stream. These features offer practical points to consider when planning: the park combines sports facilities and a play area with a concession stand and access to the stream. This distinguishes it from the area’s art and history attractions without requiring every interest to be part of the same itinerary.
Scenic Route, Past Recreational Activities, and Events
The Catskills Scenic Byway follows Route 28 through Fleischmanns. If you include the byway in your road trip, this clearly defined route offers a way to situate the area. It is a different point of reference for trip planning than the gallery, museum, and Village Park.
Another historical connection to recreation is the park grounds on Wagner Avenue. Baseball and other summer amusements once took place there, attracting many visitors. This former use by visitors is part of the area’s history and is distinct from the amenities listed for Village Park.
The 2025 Fleischmanns Village Fest was a day of art, music, and good food. The festival also included food offerings from local restaurants and food vendors. If you’re planning to attend a specific event, check the date and program in advance.
