Landscapes and Recreation

Poosey Conservation Area stretches across Grundy and Livingston counties. Its landscape features include fern-covered rocky bluffs, wooded hills with oak and hickory trees, and expansive grassy areas. Rocks, forests, and open meadows offer a variety of natural scenery within the same area.

Poosey Conservation Area also has a shooting range with lanes at 25, 50, and 100 yards. Moberly Park offers a different kind of recreation with its 18-hole disc golf course. The Trenton Family Aquatic Center adds seasonal activities, with water slides, diving boards, and a separate, zero-entry baby pool. Check the center’s current operating dates in advance.

Buildings and History

The Grundy County Museum comprises three buildings: the Main Building, Baker School Building, and Annex Building. The complex includes a preserved one-room schoolhouse and a Flat-Iron building. The museum also displays military memorabilia from the Civil War through modern times.

The Plaza Hotel was built in 1929–1930. It is an Art Deco building and the only example of this architectural style in Trenton. Its original features included a theater, ballroom, beauty and barber shops, a café, and air-conditioned guest rooms. The Thompson House represents a much older period: it dates to around 1834 and is the oldest building in Grundy County.

Festivals and Farmers Market

Main Street Trenton’s annual Sip & Stroll takes place in spring and combines wine tastings, snacks, and shopping at participating businesses. In August, the annual Five Points Festival in downtown Trenton features bounce houses, food trucks, vendor booths, shopping, family-friendly activities, and a cornhole tournament. The two events therefore differ both in season and character: Sip & Stroll focuses on tastings and shopping, while the Five Points Festival offers a broader program of activities.

The annual Missouri Day Festival includes vendor booths, children’s activities, demonstrations, a parade, and a major marching band competition. The Main Street Trenton Farmer's Market takes place on Saturdays from May through September. It offers produce, baked goods, handmade items, and local food. Before your trip, check current event dates, participating businesses, and the market’s seasonal schedule.
